Barbee coaching

Post by Plano Minuteman » Mon Feb 01, 2010 10:55 am

Big win for them on Saturday 2OTs vs. a previously undefeated UAB team in conference USA.

They're 15-5, 6-1 in league. They broke Memphis's conference USA win streak in Memphis and destroyed UCF at home.

Barbee seems like he's doing a helluva job there. I've seen them a few times and they're fun to watch.

Check out this article on Derrick Caracter, who basically got booted from Louisville a couple of years ago.

Caracter's been extremely productive for UTEP averaging 13.7ppg, 8.6rpg.

It's taken a while for Barbee to get things rolling in UTEP, but things are looking pretty good for them now.

I was on the Barbee bandwagon when we hired Ford. I thought Barbee would have been the best choice to "come home" and coach here.

UTEP's roster is very odd.

0 seniors
 11 juniors
1 sophomore
2 freshmen (neither one plays)

Barbee needs to recruit the entire state of Texas in the class of 2011.

That roster really has the look of a coach who is just trying to win immediately and then get out of there.

How could any coach even have the time to recruit that many players into one class?

I don't know but he also supposedly has 4 more new guys coming in next year, according to ESPN.

Wait, Plano Minuteman. Did you just say "Helluva job, Barbee." Sounds strangely familiar... :)

Another big win last night for the UTEP Miners. They came storming back to beat Houston, 65-58.

The Miners stand at 16-5 overall and 7-1 in CUSA. They already have huge league road wins @ Memphis and @ UAB.

Saturday night at 10 PM eastern they host Tulsa in a battle for 1st place in CUSA! The game is scheduled to be on ESPN2. Tune in and check out Tone's squad, they are fun to watch. He also has Mike Babul patrolling the sidelines with him as well.

Go UTEP and team Barbee!

UTEP won be some $$$ last night, I bet the 2nd half when they were down by 4, had to win by 3.

UTEP beat Tulsa, 73-59. Barbee's boys are now alone in first place, at 8-1.

Do they run the DDM?

Yup, UTEP runs the DDM primarily.

Sometimes, they run a more traditional O and dump it into the post to Caracter. So, if you asked me what % of the time they run the DDM, I don't know.

They've got a great PG in Culpepper though. He makes getting into the lane and finishing look easy. He was just shredding Houston at the end of that game. He doesn't look like he's really 6'0" tall though.

UTEP is stacked, and if they return everyone they will be even more legitimate next year as they don't lose anyone, but I bet htey will lose someone to the pros, wouldn't be suprised if Caracter bounced seems to be the story of his career

Where did you read that UTEP runs the DDM? I don't think they do at all.
