KAEO Keon Thompson
Re: KAEO Keon Thompson
^ Agreed. But he'll probably be a starter there and probably not here. So as much as I hate to lose him, he did the right thing for his career.

Did the Collective have discussions with Keon before he decided to enter the portal?

Keon's Stephen F Austin team is in a bad slump and they just fired their coach in the middle of his 9th season. Tough break for Keon. I'll never know what really happened and if he was pushed out or chased some money or whatever, but I'm rooting for him. From the outside looking in, he seemed like a good kid that quietly and effectively went about his business.

Re: KAEO Keon Thompson
I think that it came down to simple logistics: he wanted PT and to be a starter. He knew that with Diggins and the evolvement of Curry after his freshman year his PT and role would decrease.Juice Stand wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:54 pm Keon's Stephen F Austin team is in a bad slump and they just fired their coach in the middle of his 9th season. Keon made a really bad decision IMO. I doubt he got big NIL $$ from Stephen F Austin and he had to know if he stayed he would get 25 minutes a game - the odd man out coming into this year was Worthy, not Keon. Without actually doing the math - just a quick game by game glance - Worthy is averaging appx 20 minutes a game and thats with him only getting 20 minutes in 1 of the first 10 games - and that was on him because he really wasn't very good the first 10 games - had he been good he probably would have been averaging right around 25 - thats a lot of minutes - more than some starters.

That's kinda weird. He's been there 9 years and you dump him in January? I know you wanna get a little jump on finding the next guy, but that's way early.Juice Stand wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:54 pm Keon's Stephen F Austin team is in a bad slump and they just fired their coach in the middle of his 9th season.
The AD says the dumped him in an effort to get better and qualify for the conference tournament.

Seriously? That's a joke and a half.

Re: KAEO Keon Thompson
^ My thoughts exactly. The guy's got a pretty good track record, including multiple 28-win seasons, first place conference finishes, and they handed Duke a historic home loss at Cameron Indoor, their first home non-con loss in 150 games. Programs have ups and downs, but I don't know why you fire a guy like that in the middle of the year unless there's something else going on.

Michael McBroom. What a name for an AD. Either win games or get swept out

Stephen F wins on a half court buzzer beater today in OT
Keon looks happy - finished with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists
