Brick city to start the game (shooting mid-twenties, 0 of whatever from 3), but continuing to play gritty opened things up. Didn't hurt that Lasalle is not very strong down low.

Jayden did his thing, which was awesome.

DHS looked more comfortable and played well, as did Curry.

With guys hitting their stride in the grind of conference play, surprising things can happen.

Gotta think, too, only a matter of time before Nate finds his shot.

Saw none of it, but will watch the replay. Knowing the outcome will make it more enjoyable :D

Was somewhere near AMherst right before halftime and thought about maybe stopping in for 2nd half. If you go in at halftime, they still make you buy a ticket?
Just wondering

I have been really down on Njingue but give the kid credit - hell of a game today! UMass needs him to play more like this every game! I mean 13 rebounds and 5 blocks will be tough to repeat but we need him to get 7/8 rebounds a game and make those little bunnies always he seems to get each game. I will gladly eat my words if he continues to play like he did today the rest of the year.

The team we saw today was the type of team I had been expecting this season, I thought we’d be a slightly better outside shooting team though.
Tough, aggressive defense, strong rebounding and protection at the rim. Hopefully they are starting to trust each other and beginning to understand what the staff has been preaching. Great win!

I'm not a sports psychologist, but maybe I can play one on TV. Seriously, this was a great team win. I don't think Sool or Rivera had their legs today, at least not at 100%. They played the most minutes on Wednesday and obviously carried the team. It looked to me like they were trying to do too much.

My psychological feeling is that the guys who didn't contribute on Wednesday really buckled down and said, "let's get this one for Sool and Rivera". I'll name 4:
Malek - from 0 and 4 to 10 and 8. He would have had more if he didn't roll his ankle early in the second half.
Jayden - from 2 and 1 to 9 and 13 with FIVE blocks
DHS - from 0 and 0, fouling out in 9 minutes to 10 and 9
Curry - from 6 points, 1 assist to 22 and 7 assists with 0 turnovers

There are different ways to label "team basketball". I call this one team basketball because they played for each other. 2 guys were hurting and everyone else stepped up. The end of the first half and the end of the game were as good as we can play. LaSalle averages 75 points a game and for 35 out of the 40 minutes our D was awesome.

I hope I can find a replay somewhere.

pleasantly surprised with the crowd today - possibly the largest crowd this year. listed at 3500 and change but seemed closer to 4500 and with the kids sitting behind basket seemed even louder.

Juice Stand wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 1:57 pm Shepard was tough on us last year. In the loss at their place, he hit three consecutive 3's right before halftime to give them a 10 point lead. I'm sure the coaches will have him highlighted on the scouting report.

I'm usually an optimist in games against La Salle, but I think that Dunphy, even at this stage in his career and with barely any resources, can coach circles around Frank. We're 1-3 against La Salle under Frank. I hope the staff can prove me wrong.
They did a great job on Shepard in the first half, I think he only had two points. He got it going midway through the 2nd half, but it wasn't enough. Great job stopping a guy that can get hot quick and beat you.

Nice work by Frank and the staff. The first half was an even battle and then the second was more of a chess match. I have to give Frank and his guys credit. Coming out of the timeout they blasted La Salle out of the water. A 25-3 run to close out the game is really impressive.

Others have already said it, but it was so nice to get a full team effort today. This was the team I have been expecting to see all year with many contributors. The box score is stuffed from pretty much everybody that got into the game. Even though Rahsool and Rivera were probably still dragging a bit, they both played well overall (I know Rivera had some knucklehead plays, but overall he was a positive), and then you get contributions from four guys that have recently been MIA:

- Curry: Near perfect game including 7 assists and 0 turnovers. He was maybe a bit selfish at times, but if they're going to give you that elbow jumper, go ahead and take it. He's smooth from that spot.
- Hankins-Sanford: Monster on the boards. He had butterfingers a few times, but he played with a purpose and just missed a double-double.
- Ndjigue: What can you even say about this game? Just absolutely tenacious. He got up in the air for rebounds, got every loose ball, and came out of nowhere to block shots. Spectacular game from him.
- Malek: We finally got something rom the center position and early on he kept us in the game. Too bad about the rolled ankle, hopefully it's not a big deal.

Re: those (appropriate) comments and concern about Shepard: I think it was Jayden on him, although the team defense and rotations were so good at times it was hard to tell. For that and the rest of his game, I'd have Jayden as player of the game, although Curry could share that honor with efficient offense and a couple nice steals. As others have said, getting contributions like that and excellent contributions from DHS and Malek make this a complete team. Watched on TV and the announcer wondered once why Shahid wasn't in. Perhaps coach worried he'd be out of place defending bigs who shoot from the outside.

Preface this with saying that I'm a big fan of Shahid and I think he has enormous potential. In my opinion, Shahid didn't play because when Malek and DHS are playing well, there isn't a need for him. He's still learning the game, and the most important thing he brings to the table is rim protection. We got 5 blocks from Jayden, that's pretty good rim protection, and Malek and DHS had probably their best games of the season. I think it's pretty clear at this point in the season what his limitations are, and when other big guys are playing well and not in foul trouble, he doesn't need to be shoehorned in there.
