Game 19, 2024-25: La Salle (1/19)
I could read about last night's game for hours, but it's on to La Salle. I don't know much about them, but I see they are playing better lately. They are 2-2 in conference. They lost by double digits at Dayton and at home to Loyola. Then, they beat SBU in Olean by 1 and beat Davidson by 3 last night at home. In a non-con game, the lost by 14 to SJU early in December in the "Big 5 Classic".
Judging by their last 2, it won't be easy. That's about all I know at this point. I'll be there on Sunday + either 3 or 4.

After last night's game, glad this one is on Sunday and not Saturday. Hopefully the extra day off proves to be beneficial.

Re: Game 19, 2024-25: La Salle (1/19)
Diggins and Rivera were the only two players that logged over 40 minutes in the Fordham game. That surprised me, but I guess it's because some others who may have played more ended up fouling out. The extra day off will definitely be needed for Diggins and Rivera, but the rest of the team should be fresh as a daisy.
I'm looking for two players to step up and start contributing: Jaylen Curry, who's sort of fallen off a cliff just as soon as Niles and I started arguing over his value, and Daniel Hankins-Sanford, who's been largely invisible since returning from injury. They need to start stepping up and shouldering a larger part of the load.
I'll be there, hoping to drag a few friends along with me.

^ I totally agree that for us to have any success going forward, we need Curry and DHS to get back to where they were earlier in the year. La Salle's team is built like Fordham's.
They have 2 big centers ( Lilley - 6'9, 245 and Etienne - 6'10, 255) that split the minutes 25 and 15. In conference play they are combining for 13 points and 13 boards. I'm not sure how we keep them at or below those numbers in this game.
We match up well in the size department as their guards are 6'0 and 6'2, but both can score. McKeithan averages 15 in A10 play, hitting 37% and Jones is at 11. Shepard, at 6'5 has been tough to defend. He's averaging 14 and 6 in A10 play, hitting 42% from 3. White is the 5th starter. He's 6'7 and he is at 9 and 5.
They play 8 guys. Acker, a 6'2 guard averages 10 points and the last guy is Vahlberg-Fasasi a 6'8 forward who averages 4. All 8 guys play between 14 and 35 minutes. They have 7 scorers and average 75 points in A10 play, but they give up 80.
It won't be 120-118, but I think we'll have to score at least 75 to take this one.

Re: Game 19, 2024-25: La Salle (1/19)
Shepard was tough on us last year. In the loss at their place, he hit three consecutive 3's right before halftime to give them a 10 point lead. I'm sure the coaches will have him highlighted on the scouting report.
I'm usually an optimist in games against La Salle, but I think that Dunphy, even at this stage in his career and with barely any resources, can coach circles around Frank. We're 1-3 against La Salle under Frank. I hope the staff can prove me wrong.

I hope to see a decent crowd today for the Leaman Legacy game, but know it's unlikely. Going head to head with NFL playoffs and with a snow storm coming in is a tough spot.
It'll be interesting to see what Rahsool can give us. He's found a groove in conference play, and hopefully he's back to 100% after a few days off. He likes to shoot at the Mullins Center and this is a Philly team coming in. We need to start getting more from Curry and DHS, it would be nice if they started clicking today.

Big game with nine teams with three conference losses, UMass will want to give that fourth loss rather than get. Time to dig deep and play smart.

agree that this is a big game. With a win they jump to a three way tie for 5th place - with a loss they fall to 14th place - so yes - HUGE game today! gotta protect home court - can't see them wining many on the road.
Re: Game 19, 2024-25: La Salle (1/19)
I'll be there + 4. Unless you get 46 and 29 from 2 of your starters, it's hard to win when your other 3 starters give you a total of 8 points in a triple overtime game.
I wish I had an answer for the center position, and so does Frank. They don't score or rebound enough and that's a huge issue as we have all seen. One of these days Frank might give Doumbia a shot at starting and see how long he goes before fouling out. I think he has potential to be a contributor.
As has been mentioned over and over, DHS and Curry need to get back to playing like they can. Let's take some pressure off of Sool and Rivera.
Hope to see everyone at the game. Need a big crowd.

Also appears to be first responder appreciation day. Seen a few places send out a notice with slightly discounted tickets for first responders. Hopefully that brings a few more people inJuice Stand wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:41 am I hope to see a decent crowd today for the Leaman Legacy game, but know it's unlikely. Shepard is deadly from the corner and UMass's defense leaves that open too often. Can't do that today.Juice Stand wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 1:57 pm Shepard was tough on us last year.
