Game 9, 2024-25: Central CT (12/4)
Re: Game 9, 2024-25: Central CT (12/4)
Anyone know what Cross & Cohen got for NIL $ leaving UMass? And anyone think they would have left if they got similar $ here? Curious if it was all about money or wanting to play elsewhere
Maybe keeping Keon around and taking one less big man to ride the bench would have been beneficial. I really think Rahsool adjusting to PG minutes has been part of his struggles. He seems more of a natural 2 guard all day long. Keon & Curry splitting time at the point looked like a good tandem

Eldon, Danny Hurley is probably the biggest dickhead in all of college sports yet he's still one of the best coaches with the best program going right now, so I still think you can be a hard nosed guy. It all comes down to talent and Frank might not be the best suited guy for this NIL era. As much as I hate the optics of the Mazzulla 3 ball game, that's what matters now. If you can't hit 3s in college or the pros, you're probably going to lose.

My son said that Cohen got 400K from where he went and rides the bench. The one who went to the other school got 600K and is a star.

^ He took over a pretty good situation a K-state

Pressers from last night...
Diggins and Ndjigue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgbZZ75y8zU
Frank https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neN5BDob6DI
Jayden whispers at the start of theirs, as he's looking at what I assume is the box score. If I'm catching it correctly, he's saying "I was at a minus 10, that's disgraceful."
Frank opens with admiration for CCSU's core players having stuck together and at CCSU for so long, and bemoans how his team lacks competitive spirit.
Kinda thankful that these still get posted after a bad loss.

Jayden cares.. him and Rivera were the only reason we were in the game yesterday before Diggins caught fire for a stretch. If Jayden had an offensive game he would be a next level player. I'm sure Frank only wants to practice defense with him except that's where he already excels.MikeUMA wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 4:09 pm Pressers from last night...

Last night against good competition he started, played 14 minutes and had 2 pts and 1 reb
Re: Game 9, 2024-25: Central CT (12/4)
Let me see if I can elaborate a bit on what I said.
One of you mentioned Dan Hurley, and he is as good an example as any because is his a raging asshole on the sidelines too. I also agree that he is coaching while he is ranting a lot more so than Frank is (it certainly looks that way at least). Frank is a "Practice Coach"
I have never seen a Frank practice, but based on his actions, this is what I am thinking.
I played (a long time ago) for a game time lunatic as well. We drilled and drilled in practice over just about any game situation that could come up. When it came to the actual game, he was a fucking wingnut but he had us so well drilled that we already knew what to do while he flung himself around on the sidelines. We all knew it, and we knew when we fucked up before he even got in our face about it.
IMO Frank sees his players execute things much better in his practice drills than they are in games and that frustrates the hell out of him to the point of paralysis. He sees them executing so he thinks that should translate to the games. Most of his rants are in the area of "What are you thinking" or "What are you doing?". To me that means they are doing things in games that they are not doing in practice (or vice-versa).
He thinks they got this watching them practice, then nothing goes as he expects in the games and is not that good at steering as opposed to Hurley who can. Adding to that is that the players (IMO) appear top have low basketball IQs. It is a recipe for exactly what we see now.

Matt Cross is averaging around 8 and 8 for SMU. He's starting and playing good minutes. He's not the #1, 2, or even 3 option for the Mustangs. Certainly not a star. He's 7th in scoring and 7th in FG attempts, but tied for 4th in minutes. He'll play and contribute but per KenPom usage ratings he's actually in the "limited role; 12-16% of possessions used" category near the bottom.
I loved Matt Cross in Amherst and I'll love him at SMU, but his transfer helped his wallet more than it helped his visibility. Not judging him. Whatever the money was, maybe I'd have done the same thing. Just providing context here. I hope he wins and has fun in the ACC in his final year.
Cohen doesn't even exist in Arkansas' KenPom player usage ratings. Not listed at all. Another bad transfer, in my opinion, except for the big environment experience and maybe some money.

He is at USC. He initially decided to go to Arkansas but then the coach left for USC and he followed.

HA! That's right. Forgot about that. Goes to show how much I follow these guys once they ditch the maroon and white. "Once a player leaves Durham they don't ever come back."
Cohen is playing at USC. I hope all his dreams come true.

Cross is leading rebounder for SMU, and Cohen is third leading scorer for USC.
Re: Game 9, 2024-25: Central CT (12/4)
And the "other Cohen" at Arkansas hasn't played yet.
