I agree with you, Floyd. But the fact that you even have to question that tells us just how badly college hoops absolutely SUCKS right now. Free agency, the fucking MAC. The MAC! College BB and the UMass hoops I grew to love is completely done. Maybe there will be another unexpected sea change in the NCAA culture and structure and it will return to an honest place. Until then, all historic Minutemen weep.

Re: 2025 Recruiting
Thank you, Juice stand for the gazette link. excellent article. With the NIL college basketball has gone from one extreme to the other. I’m sending money now to the Collective. I guess it’s a fight it or join it system or it what it means here is if we’re really gonna have a good basketball team it’s collect money for the “student-Athletes” or whatever you wish to call them.Happy for them. It’s much more fun to survive well than not to survive . Guessing we now at least have a shot in basketball to go to the NCAA tournament being now that we’re in the mid Atlantic. The latest signing of the bodyguard was a major coup.Huge success !Frank with his personality and staff can get some three or four star players. At least it should be a fun season for Umass basketball.

I hear ya. I think the saving grace in this for us is having Frank Martin here. Kids still want to play for a known coach who can develop them, can win, and get them into March Madness. It's VERY important for this program to win big in the MAC, get into postseason play, and in my mind get back to an "anyone, anywhere, anytime " OOC schedule that puts these kids in big games with lots of eyes on them. That should keep big time talent at least looking at UMass, and hopefully eventually we get into a better conference. Unfortunately this NIL situation is altering lots of the college athletics scene, and it ain'tJoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 9:39 pmI agree with you, Floyd. Time to Win
Re: 2025 Recruiting
Earlier in this thread the word "patience" was used. If we get marginally better in FB (5 or 6 wins a year) and if we can stay near the top of the MAC in BB, I think we will get an invite to a better conference in 3-5 years. The landscape of conferences is changing very quickly.Floyd wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 5:18 amI hear ya. I think the saving grace in this for us is having Frank Martin here. Re: 2025 Recruiting
^^ Don't tell Football fans to have 'patience' right now!
Re: 2025 Recruiting
The signing period is 11/13 - 11/20. It seems like Danny is a done deal, but I'm never confident until I see a report that the LOI is in. Also wondering if we will see any surprise signings.
Re: 2025 Recruiting
with scholarships going to 15 next year the door is going to be even more wide open to snag P5 guys who are not getting chance to play.

Re: 2025 Recruiting
^ You are correct. It's now referred to as a "financial aid agreement" but it does the same thing. Once signed, other teams can no longer contact a prospect. How honest is this process, it's hard to know
Signing means two things:
You are committed to one year at the university. You do not need to sign another agreement after the first year. The school is required to let you know if your athletic aid is being renewed after the first year.
Your recruiting journey is over. Once you sign a written offer, no other schools can recruit you, and you are not permitted to contact coaches at other institutions.

One thing I've learned since watching Sabonis in my early days is that Lithuanians can definitely play basketball.wmmmfan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:54 pm Here is a name to keep an eye on.
