Floyd, the only people who will give a shit about Top Dog in the MAC post here and it is not even all of the people who post here.

This Football move had better pay off or Umass will never be able to get out this spiral. They need Bowl Eligible seasons to start in MAC Year 2 or they are doneski....

Re: the "Top Dog" comment.. if we're winning and it results in NCAA Tournament appearances, say, every other year, I think people more people will care than just the diehards here. Whether or not that happens is totally up for debate... but we know UMass fans show up when the team is winning.

Agreed with Football, they need to win quickly in the MAC, by at least Year 3 in my book... I think that is possible.
I completely agree with the Bandwagon assessment. Umass fans are about as fair weather as any fan base out there. Doing that consistently will be almost impossible until they fix the transfer rules though.

Floyd wrote: Mon Jul 29, 2024 12:25 pm Or how 'bout this. UMass football improves and Frank gets hoop to be the top dog in the league. The UMass name grows with the tourney bid, Frank builds an anywhere, anytime hoops program and football grows into a tough, competitive program. It's not a crazy scenario to make happen and then we may have more options. To me, it's all about having the right program builders in place, and for the 1st time in a while, I feel like we do. All the other stuff falls into place with success

If top dog in the MAC gets you into the dance, anything can happen. Fans love an underdog, and the visibility elevates the program. Frank has already improved the team, and the talent coming in this year looks to improve on that. People here may not give a shit about Top Dog in the MAC, but if it gets you in the tourney it's elevating the program. Helps recruiting and you can schedule better OOC games to draw fans in. Post season is king

Agree, football is key to getting into a bigger conference, but hoops has a great opportunity to get the name out there again

A10, MAC, Yankee Conference...I don't give a sh!t, let's win some games and build this thing. I don't care if bandwagon fans jump aboard or not, I invest in the team for my own entertainment, not theirs.

There is a MAC hoops guy in the Olympics - Carlos Ortiz from Kent State is playing for Puerto Rico. Who'da thunk?

Floyd, this is what I’ve been preaching about umass hoops since the move to the MAC was announced. I’m glad someone gets it because we’ve wallowed in misery for the last 25 years in the A10.

Mountain West notifies the MAC of its interest in NIU & Toledo as football-only members in 2026, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ
. This adds Central Time Zone to MW, potentially increasing future media rights value. NIU & Toledo have combined for 7 of last 13 MAC titles. MW currently has 7 football members but would still need 2 full-time members in addition to NIU & Toledo
The MW has some good football and basketball teams. Toledo does add value with both major sports. NIU does some great things in FB from time to time and understand MW interest. Hope it does not happen but will make things really interesting. If it happens, believe the MAC will look for 1 team for 12. The MWC contract is probably 3 times the size of a new MAC contract.

If this happens, does this open the door to a NDSU and SDSU FB Only replacement for the MAC?

$5 million fee to move up from FCS. Don’t see it happening.

None of those schools in Montana or the Dakotas seem to want to make the jump. Probably tough with the low populations in those states to justify the extra money to upgrade.
