Students are not encouraged to go to games, in fact they are discouraged. Student section for all games are crappy sections. The only incentives are sporadic bribes of tech gadgets or something similar. The students are not part of the game experience. The student tickets are limited as well. The student section should be expanded and moved to better seating. Student competitions, events to highlight students and encourage that aren’t corny are needed. Nothing in the marketing or game experience is working to engage students or build any connection to the school.inthescoop wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 10:46 am Not sure how students at a public university have no interest in sports? Do we try to get an Antonio's stand at Mullins? Will that solve all of our problems!!![]()

Re: 2023 Recruiting
I think Frank will get this thing going in a better direction eventually, but let's not kid ourselves here. This program has been absolutely brutal for years. The program must become competitive to create any kind of fan base. It has been such a disaster, no benefit of the doubt will be given at this point. The program will have to earn it the old-fashioned way with good planning and hard work.
Re: 2023 Recruiting
Spot on, but it doesn’t end with the students. Their marketing and in game experience is none existent and unappealing to the general public as well. For a university with a top flight sports management program that building is dead.minutefanjsf wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 9:37 pmStudents are not encouraged to go to games, in fact they are discouraged. Re: 2023 Recruiting
Didn't think there would be anything happening with 2023 recruiting at this stage, but saw this on twitter. He committed to VCU in 2022 but took a prep year at PSA in CT and they won the National Prep Championship. I don't think he would come to UMass without a scholarship, so that begs the question, "If he comes, who goes"? Let the speculation begin. I have 2 thoughts, but I'll let others weigh in first.

A lot to like about Rollie Castineyra. So far, he's listed as a PWO but it doesn't say that in the article. He's from Marblehead, a pretty well-to-do town, so maybe his folks can afford in-state costs.

I think it's too late for non grads to enter the portal, so it would have to be a decommit... so maybe Sawyer Mayhugh?69MG wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 10:19 pm Didn't think there would be anything happening with 2023 recruiting at this stage, but saw this on twitter. If it was before the portal closed I might say Keon Thompson because my understanding is that he was pretty close with Ricky Harris.

The UMass game experience is an embarrasment. Some undergrad could cement a really nice entry level job in sports if they put on their resume, improved umass basketball attendance by 2000 fans by engaging xyzwmmmfan wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 5:09 amSpot on, but it doesn’t end with the students. Very interesting. No idea about how the scholarship shuffle would shake out. What are your thoughts?69MG wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 10:19 pm Didn't think there would be anything happening with 2023 recruiting at this stage, but saw this on twitter. Re: 2023 Recruiting
I find it hard to believe that it's possible for an undergrad to improve the attendance at UMass MBB games by 2000 fans (assuming we're talking about per game), without massive funding, just through improved engagement.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 10:44 am Some undergrad could cement a really nice entry level job in sports if they put on their resume, improved umass basketball attendance by 2000 fans by engaging xyz

Niles I assume you are not in sales? You don't always need money to spend massivley to improve your top line numbers. It is pretty simple, make the games fun and make it 'mass personalized'. Since I am not 19 years old, I don't know what 19 year olds find fun, but the athletic department needs to figure it out what will make the students come, make the students stay, and make the students have fun. Whoever job it is is doing a poor job. Grand Canyon, Utah Valley, frequenty sell out their games. Why, because the games are fun for those students. I konw old cager and Eldon will be pissed off to listen to Biggie v. TuPac night but they'll get over it.NilesGold wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 11:31 amI find it hard to believe that it's possible for an undergrad to improve the attendance at UMass MBB games by 2000 fans (assuming we're talking about per game), without massive funding, just through improved engagement.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 10:44 am Some undergrad could cement a really nice entry level job in sports if they put on their resume, improved umass basketball attendance by 2000 fans by engaging xyz
Not sure we could sell out The Riley Center or Tom Gola Arena some nights. You have 20,000 students within 4 miles of the Mulins Center, you need to get 15% to come to games. and we got 25% we'd have a massive homecourt advantage.

Easy, give the kid the baseball scholarship, would be a better use than the players we currently are giving money toDanaDingle3 wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 11:29 amVery interesting. That kind of stuff works on the margins, but you're talking about 50-100% attendance increases. And those two programs have been at the top of their conferences for about 10 years.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 11:40 am You don't always need money to spend massivley to improve your top line numbers. Another guess, maybe Majok isn't reclassifying into 2023 anymore, and will instead enroll at UMass in 2024.NilesGold wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 8:36 amI think it's too late for non grads to enter the portal, so it would have to be a decommit... so maybe Sawyer Mayhugh?69MG wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 10:19 pm Didn't think there would be anything happening with 2023 recruiting at this stage, but saw this on twitter. The. semester also just recently ended...maybe a grades issue forces a player to go the JUCO route?
Re: 2023 Recruiting
I have no idea where he would fit or what could be going on.
I saw one video. Love his length and looks athletic but can't tell how polished he is or how many tools he has.
Frank clearly likes his length and outside shooting ability.
