Why

Can anyone explain why Xavier is number 9? Two reasons. First of all, Xavier is pretty good this year. To this point, they have been playing the best ball of any A10 team. Second, Pomeroy's ratings are not the greatest. Xavier is not a top 10 team but they probably are a top 20 team. Of course, for...

The final decision was made: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2207100 Not that it surprises me one bit, but it looks like the Huskies and Calhoun have chosen the shot of winning a national championship over being fair and setting a good example. They did lay a tough punishment on William...

Well, I for one hope it isn't Moore. But he is a good guy and, by all accounts, would make a good head coach. UMass could clearly do worse. Hobbs has had a lot of success at GW and Leiato has done OK at DePaul. Moore will be a head coach somewhere sooner or later and will probably be a succes...

Conference RPI 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 ACC 1 1 3 2 3 Big East 4 3 6 6 5 There is no question the ACC is a better conference. I don't know what makes you guys believe the Big East is superior. It amazes me that anyone still uses the RPI to measure the strength of any team or conference. Team RPI is...

Truth knows as well as anyone that Lew Perkins was behind UMass and UConn not playing in the mid 90's. Lew Perkins is among the best ADs in the business and it was a smart move for UConn. Lew played a part but it was no more than a small part. He wanted a deal that favored UConn financially. He was...

Interesting peak into the guy's head though, don't you think? Maybe it shines some light on the real reason why UMass and UConn didn't play each other "all those years".

2000/2001 was a better year for UMass. Check the following links: http://teamrankings.com/ncb101/ and http://teamrankings.com/ncb/ However, this season is clearly better than the last two. The question is, does improvement justify keeping a coach or is the decision based solely on absolute performan...

Chuff, You really need to look at better sources for discussions like this. (ie. any discussion aside from discussions about being on or off the NCAA bubble) http://www.teamrankings.com/ncb/umapower.php3 Sagarin, as mentioned, is also very good along with a few others. Going into the game FSU was #8...

Villanueva would have been an absolute bust in the NBA. He's playing good now? It's two thirds of the way through the season. I guess he's a slow starter. Hmmm, who to believe...you or the NBA scouts that project at mid-to-late-first round? I'd rather have a player playing great in March than in De...

Wow. Like the sox winning the series not calming the savage sox fans, it looks like beating UConn has done nothing to reduce the vitrol against Calhoun. Dallas, did you see the UConn/Syracuse game? Villanueva was amazing in that game and has been quite good as of late. He started slow this year and ...

May I point out where I think Mike would like this discussion (an all others about Lappas) to go? It seems to me that people who want Lappas gone should voice their opinion, privately, to the people that are in a position to make the decision. Some of them apparently already have. If you want to inc...

The ratings only lead to a statistical prediction for the next game. It is all about probabilities. The team with the higher rating has a greater than 50% probability of winning but it isn't 100% nor is it ever claimed to be. If it were that simple we wouldn't have to play the games. The bigger the ...
