Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

I get the point you’re making but I think money was most definitely involved. That is, Keon probably was not offered ANY (regrettably) because, you know, we had to free up all that big coin for Matt Cross. But that’s cool. Matt sent a nice tweet on his way out and we got ourselves some new rentals....

Re: MAC Sports topics that include Hoops

It's being reported by the Gazette that the new MAC ESPN deal will be 2-2.5M each and then added in 1.6M for the CFP while the PAC-2 are carving out 6.4M and UConn 350k from the G5. That's 3M more than the future A10 and CFP extension figure. The 3M comes in handy as the NCAA settlement will be low...

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?

Good call IMO, I do not think his schtick would play very well in the NBA. I wonder if they told him he had to pick Bronnie and that was part of the reason he said no? I actaualy hope so. I am not a big Hurley fan at all, but the fact that he told the Lakers to pound sand makes me like him a little ...

Re: 2024-25 Season

Frank Martin will be on WEEI at 8:45 this morning as they are broadcasting from the Basketball Hall of Fame Did anybody listen to Frank's interview? Anything interesting? I'm kind of hoping he roasted BC a little bit on Boston sports radio. No not really, he was blowing Calhoon a little bit though....

Re: 2024-25 Season

I must apologize for my more than usual negativity over the last few months, but I am extremely frustrated with the current situation and the decades of mind-numbingly stupid decisions that led us to where Umass sits today. Ironically, I am really not a negative person, but I try to be pragmatic an...

If (hopefully when) Umass finally makes a bowl appearance, the first one they ever play in will be the one in Fenway.... Book it.

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?

^ That's wishful thinking... you think a guy that screams and yells the way he does will be successful in that league? There's no way he changes his style. ^ yes this..... Hurley is a fucking lunatic. I find it hard to believe that is not his true personality on the sidelines, and that is not going...

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?

Hurley's problem (or maybe not) is that there is not much more he can do at UConn. It gives him a ton a job security and not a bad paycheck. Unlike Ollie who inherited a National Championship team, Hurley built this himself so he has waaaaay more leash. Does he want the challenge of something differ...

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?

Cal failed with the Nets too. College to Pro is not for everyone. The fails are more prevalent in Football, but there are a lot in Hoops too. Hurley would be a complete fool taking his talents to the pros let alone the Lakers. Le-douchebag would laugh at him the first time Hurley started yelling lik...

Re: 2024-25 Season

Providence dropped out cause they got invited to the Atlantis tournament (replacing Creighton who dropped out to go to some other tournament with NIL $ involved), so I don't hold it against them. Plus they said they would play us in the future. BC didn't seem to have a good reason for dropping out ...

Re: NCAA/Schools Paying Players - What's Next?

Speaking about NCAA sports more generally (not just UMass, but many athletic programs if not all of NCAA), this seems pretty bad. However, I agree with UMassCollective in that we as fans shouldn't be dwelling on negativity or pessimism - negativity just ends up becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. ...
