I hate to see the group of 5, get left out. Have a 4 team play in like basketball.
JMU plays BYU
Tulane plays Notre Dame
The powers that control the sport get their way, and the group of 5 still get a shot

Re: Cage memories - Help a Collegian writer
I was there for the Rick Pitino/Al Skinner/Alex Eldridge/Billy Endicott, Burke years (72-77). I think we were still in the Yankee Conference then. We used to play UCONN twice a year. The atmosphere was pretty crazy. Very loud, and for hours after my ears would be ringing.
I was there from 71-75 ...

Re: Future Basketball Success Hinges on Football
I think you can look at this year's NCAA tournament and clearly see that basketball success follows footbal. The SEC is now the premier conference in basketball, with the Big 10 close behind. The mid-majors are done and can no longer compete. With football money you have more NIL dollars for other ...

Re: Portal MBB 2025
So far, only 4 from URI have entered the portal. But as we've seen here, there are many more to come. A quick check shows these teams in the lead:
LaSalle - 7
SBU - 6
URI - 4
Ford - 4
VCU - 4
The only blank slates are UMass, Loyola and St. Joes.
Those are interesting stats, but at this point ...

Re: MAC Sports topics that include Hoops
MAC championship was a fun game to watch in front of a packed and engaged arena. Both Miami and Akron had kids who could shoot and hit foul shots. They both would have beaten UMASS this season.
Just find some kids who can shoot, can't win in today's basketball without being able to hit a 3.

Re: Coach Frank Martin
When I played intramurals, it was only worth 2 no matter where you shot it from. I forgot to add they can't shoot free throws either, certainly kids on campus that can convert free throws.

Re: Coach Frank Martin
They can't shoot threes, can't hit mid-range jumpers, and can't finish around the rim, unless Diggins goes on a streak, can't win a game.
I'm being facetious, but maybe Frank should go watch some intramural games, and invite a few kids who can actually put the ball in the hole, and offer them a ...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Watched the Jimmy V special on 30 for 30 early this am about the '83 NC State upset over Houston with the players reunion. Incredible how close they all still are, getting together to talk about Jimmy V, the season, and the championship. That's what will be missing down the road as it is becoming ...

Re: Coach in 2025-26?
I have no idea, and I would assume, no one on this board does. We can only hope that he and his family like living in the area, and a goal of dominating the MAC and not relocating is of value.

Re: First reaction: UMass to the MAC
As they say, follow the money, in College Athletics today, the money is in football unless you're a basketball-only school and can get in the Big East. This move obviously hurts basketball, but the only other choice was to drop back down to FCS and stay in the A10, I would have been ok with that ...

Re: Conference Realignment
Does anyone on this board actually have any insight into what Bamford and the administration are thinking or is this all just pure speculation?

I would like to see it happen, but what is the benefit to the MAC of adding us and Deleware?

Re: Conference realignment
Football TV and money have rendered College sports as we know it (particularly for those of us old enough to remember the Yankee Conference) changed forever, especially for non-revenue sports. It makes no sense for a team from NJ and a team from California to play each other in anything but football ...

Re: 🗣 UMass to the MAC: Dedicated Thread
My question is since we rejected the MAC for all sports already, why would they want us now? I'm not trying to be negative, just curious to hear the opinions of others on the board.
