Re: Conference Realignment

I would tweak that a bit. My take is that the success of basketball, as much as we hope it happens, has minimal relevance as it relates to this discussion. When it comes to conference moves, it's really almost totally about the success of football.

Just a few examples I see:

Re: Future Basketball Success Hinges on Football

And (assuming you have knowledge we all do not and it's true) who exactly does all of the above idiocy fall on? MAC with Delaware is better for us than MAC without.

CUSA is not a great conference either, but there is a ton more potential there for Umass.

I agree that MAC + Delaware would ...

Re: NCAA/Schools Paying Players - What's Next?

Allowing these players to get paid has opened the biggest Pandora's box ever. I am not suggesting that they do not get paid, not at all. For what these schools receive in TV deals and merch sales etc.... these kids deserve to get a piece.

The problem is how much?

From day 1, I was against ...

Re: NCAA/Schools Paying Players - What's Next?

Speaking about NCAA sports more generally (not just UMass, but many athletic programs if not all of NCAA), this seems pretty bad. However, I agree with UMassCollective in that we as fans shouldn't be dwelling on negativity or pessimism - negativity just ends up becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. I ...

Re: UMASS- Lowell, the new flagship?

If Reyes is not careful, Lowell just might make that leap.

I disagree with the spirit of the above statement, which seems to imply that any good things that Lowell does, must be at the loss of the UMass flagship. This is not a zero sum game. As Shrek says:

We'll always be the state's land ...

Re: Conference Realignment

I dont think Temple is far fetched at all as AAC could implode or be forced to try to add some sun belt's or CUSA's. In Fact, wouldnt surprise me if Temple, Delaware, Army, and Navy all end up in the MAC (Army and Navy all sports)

That sounds good, but if circumstances did somehow align to give ...

Western Kentucky might be better for the MAC strictly from an athletics program (basketball and football) standpoint, but I'd personally prefer to see Delaware instead, if that's a possibility, as they'd be more of a peer for UMass and could make for nice rivalries along with Buffalo.

I was just ...

Re: First reaction: UMass to the MAC

its interesting how all the people that argue that UMASS basketball moving into the MAC is not a big step down for the BBall program and that the level of play in the MAC is not all that bad. But you all have us now winning 20 plus games every year . WOW how does a team that has only won 20 ...

Re: Money talks

That money has been spent the same way other schools spend it. Athletics, outside of a small handful of schools, is a negative on the budget sheet. Schools do it as a cost because it is generally good for the image, pride, alumni relations, etc. for the school.

Re: MAC Teams - Present and Future

Inversion, your missing the whole point, we are just talking about the level of play in the conference, we are not talking about how good or bad our team is.

I think you are the one missing the point. Success of the UMass basketball program (and athletics in general) is really what matters ...

Re: NCAA Revenues and Expenses

https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances
The A10 has four teams listed in the 66-108 range with us being the number 66 team.

If I'm seeing correctly, those few programs are the only ones from the entire A10 conference on that list (in contrast to the MAC). In other words, just public schools ...
