84% subsidy is interesting, it's interesting that it's the largest subsidy in FBS.
But it doesn't feel particularly relevant so long as the subsidy is sustainable. Being on the scale of ~3% of campus revenues, and ~1% of system revenues, that does not feel like a meaningful concern.
The larger ...

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
I’ve always had a soft spot for mid-century modern architecture, so revisiting McGuirk’s background changed how I looked at this.
McGuirk is a SOM building from the early 1960s, and it reflects that era’s thinking clearly: expressive concrete, strong horizontality, and a stadium conceived as a ...

I just want to know if their vision for concessions includes 10-12 food trucks scattered around the stadium, why can't we do that now. Does that require the lipstick?

Re: Campus Master Plan Update
Really interesting timing with this master plan update, especially when you look at the scale of the deferred maintenance problem behind it.
Something that jumped out at me recently is how the BRIGHT Act fits into this. It lets the state securitize Fair Share (millionaire tax) revenue to create a ...

Re: 2025-26 Season
Good question. Beating Dayton last year might qualify, but our last big win over a power conference school? Maybe Penn St or Rutgers when McCall was the coach?
But really, it was probably the win over Kansas in Kansas City, or the BYU game in Springfield when DK was coaching.
McCall had a ...

Re: 2026 Season
I believe that the Flagship State School in Massachusetts gets less respect from the state and local government and hence the people than any state in the country! PS: It blows my mind that in 162 years of being THE State University, we've never had a Governor.
I gotta think it's hard for a ...

..when we're playing FBS teams w/FCS personnel
Why do we have FCS personnel? Seems like that should have been worked out in year 1-2 of transition. Year 14? Whoever is to “blame,” I think for radically different reasons we can all agree that UMass is simply not up to the task of being an ...

Re: Ryan Bamford
Who is going to pay 1M plus to payoff Ryan Bamford's contract? Let it play out and give it a year. Both football and basketball coaches have contracts beyond 12 months and other sports are doing well.
Well why are we choosing to pay 2-3x as much as the typical AD in the MAC, if we can't afford ...

So when do they just eliminate the school part of the scholarships? Wonder if there's any studies that have been done on the % of players that actually graduated in the past 5 yrs vs prior.
Last year's NCAA report shows D1 graduation rate (GSR) remains at an all-time high, up 20% from 20 years ...

Re: Ryan Bamford
Several people here mentioning that leaving the A10 is a good move. Can't say I disagree with that thought, since it is slip-sliding away from national relevance. So, when should this move have been made, and how many years back should the outcry have been initiated? The original move to the MAC ...
