Re: Makar in NHL
Should the Avs win the cup, basically everyone is predicting Makar to take the Smythe: https://fansided.com/betsided/posts/nhl-conn-smythe-trophy-odds-update-cale-makar-running-away-as-favorite He'd be the second Minuteman to take home the award in a decade, as Quick won it in 2012 (so 2 out of 11 w...

Re: George Washington University Basketball Team
"They" refers to the like-minded kids at UMass who I''m sure are watching whats happening at GW. Are students at UMass being told to not wear "Minutemen" gear when traveling internationally because the term means something different there? That's what the GW students who started...

Re: George Washington University Basketball Team
Who is the "they" in this? It was led by GW students. Are you saying GW students will force UMass to change?PintOGuinness wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 6:00 pm As funny as this, this won't be good for us. They'll be coming for the Minutemen next.![]()

Re: Around the A-10 (2021-22)
Really. Lol. The Colonials?? Well they may come after minuteman next I’m not getting it leave Minuteman alone Did you skip over what I wrote there? It's because international students who grew up suffering from the impacts of colonialism weren't feeling very welcomed at the University. Why would th...

Re: George Washington scrapping Colonials nickname
FYI - this was already brought up in the "Around the A10" thread in the basketball forum. Possible to move those here? Or just say move the discussion to here? Either way, little digging to the article where they spoke about the origin of the petition to change the name: Sophomore Andrew H...

Re: Around the A-10 (2021-22)
I don't think we'd be at risk of that. While the Colonial nickname came from the colonial army, as opposed to celebrating colonialism, it was an easy connection to make. Colonialism = bad. Anything else in regards to the Revolutionary war might just be fine. One of the suggested names was the Revolu...

Nice write-up on how key Makar (among 9 total moves) was to building the Avs into the incredible team they are today:

Re: Bruins need head coach - Carvel a candidate?
I'd personally like to see Savard get the shot. As for Carvy...I hope he's happy where he is He's got essentially a lifetime contract with guaranteed raises, and is held in very high esteem. That's a hard thing to go away from. Coaching the Bruins might be too big a draw though. That's about as big ...

Re: 2022 World Cup
Agreed. Just shows how corrupt the political body of FIFA can be when a country like Qatar can win it, especially when there were 4 other extremely competent countries bidding for the same one (USA, Japan, South Korea, and Australia).

Re: 2022 World Cup
I'd say Wales is the best bet for a win. This Iran team is no joke, so we might have a tough, essentially elimination game with them to end the group stage.
Starting off with a win against Wales would be huge though, if we managed that.

I'm pretty happy about this move. The Richmond link goes into more detail on all the teams in the conference now: https://richmondspiders.com/news/2022/5/23/mens-lacrosse-mens-lacrosse-moves-to-atlantic-10-conference-for-2023.aspx Having Hobart and High Point in there as well is a great thing.
