Re: 2025-26 Season

It was an entertaining game throughout. After the first half, it looked like we were going to blow them out, but it's clear that they changed their strategy coming out of halftime. Until the end of the game when they desperately needed points, they more or less abandoned the 3-point shot in favor of ...

Zone defense??

I am posting this as a serious question for the basketball afficionados out there to answer. It seems clear by now that we have little-to-no rim protection and our man-to-man defense is pretty bad. Since this has resulted in a massive number of fouls and a huge free throw advantage for our opponents ...

Re: Game 4, 2025-26: Central CT (11/16)

My wife and I had to leave at halftime. We were so dominant in the first half but I see that they out scored us by a lot in the second half. What the hell happened?? Did they make adjustments that we had difficulty countering or did we just play like crap?

Re: 2025 Season

Thank you, umassbaseball. Your comment is exactly on point. Since we've become the laughingstock of college football, what player with a decent amount of talent will see UMass as a desirable destination? Our ONLY hope is to overspend with the NIL money, hopefully making the right choices to "buy ...

Re: Game 14, 2024-25: at Saint Joseph's (12/31)

The box score for this game is very revealing. We took 73 shots compared to their 57 but still lost! Our defense could have been better, since their overall shooting percentage was 46%. But what I want to highlight is the disparity in 3-point attempts and makes: 3 for 16 (19%) for us vs. 11 for 31 ...

Re: State of the Progam

Every week on this board, I see FIRE BAMFORD, FIRE BAMFORD, FIRE BAMFORD! Before you all trash me, I'm not here to defend his shoddy hiring record. But I CAN predict that he'll be given at least another year by the Chancellor to show some success in the MAC. My wife and I attended a reception at the ...

Re: Game 5- Miami of Ohio

It’s not impossible for Miami to do what they did when the DBs gave up an uncontested 8 yd out pattern on every play!

Re: 2024 Game 3: @ Buffalo

As a retired UMass faculty member and a >40-year season ticket holder, like some of you I have sometimes reached the depths of despair where I seriously wonder whether UMass should just give up football since it's been such a mess since the transition to FBS. BUT, now that we will be joining the MAC ...

I don’t know why you think the lack of activity is a GOOD thing. Could be good OR bad, but either way we won’t know until the dust settles and we find out who we’ve recruited.

Re: Coach Frank Martin

Frank had several illuminating remarks at today’s luncheon. Regarding Matt, he’s graduating this spring and he needs to decide whether he wants to stay in school (here) another year. That’s what’s holding things up. Regarding the disappointing loss to VCU in the A10s, both point guards were ...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

If Cohen decided to leave for basketball reasons, he wouldn’t have initially said that he didn’t imagine leaving 48 hours before announcing portal entry.

Look, Casula isn’t going to be fired before season end. So why doesn’t Brown call the offensive plays himself? If the play calling still stinks we know what the problem is.

Re: Game Five: EMU

Although Campiotti obviously has limitations, I don't think that the poor performance of the passing game should be laid entirely at his feet. Except for the trick play that went for big yards, I saw very few passing plays (of those thrown more than a few yards downfield) in which the receiver had ...

Re: Infractions 2014-2017

For any of you who, like Preecher Jenkins, foolishly think that the NCAA sanctions against the UMass Women's Tennis Team shouldn't matter to the players who were affected, I suggest that you read Tara Sullivan's excellent piece published in today's Boston Globe sports section.
P.S. Yes, I know, this ...

Re: Infractions 2014-2017

Sorry, but I beg to differ about this being a "big nothingburger", at least with respect to the impact on the women's tennis team that was stripped of its A10 championship over VCU. I was at that A10 tournament in Orlando, and I'm also a good friend of Judy Dixon, the former coach. I will never ...
