Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
The ONLY solution to this is to allow the power schools to break off from the NCAA and do their own thing. And let the rest try to maintain some semblance of understanding what college sports were originally intended to be when things started out. The fact is that if you were to give any D1 athleti...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
What if it suddenly became OK for a player to bet on his own team? Should somebody (the old guys) yell about that, or just accept it as "the way things are today"? Just because a thing is happening doesn't make it right. I probably won't be around to see how this all turns out, but my com...

Re: Two Questions Every Candidate for the Chancellor’s Job Should Answer (yes, this post belongs in the football section
The question "why are we spending money on this?" when the team has been so bad on the field is certainly legitimate, but it has been answered over and over again here and elsewhere. And anyone with an actual understanding of how this Commonwealth functions knows that if the money towards...

Re: Two Questions Every Candidate for the Chancellor’s Job Should Answer (yes, this post belongs in the football section
Threads like this are why I went into almost full "lurk" mode. A very thoughtful analysis was posted with numbers to back it up. Yet most still resist the conclusions those numbers draw. The simple fact is our only sustainable financial course with our football program is to be a pay-for-p...

The levels of revisionist history and delusion in this thread are simply epic.

Re: Texas/Oklahoma official announce moving to the SEC
Why are we perpetuating this folly? We made the move to FBS too late, and did it poorly on top of that. The damage that being one of the worst football programs in the country is doing to this school is simply ridiculous. Honestly, I just don't see any scenario where we are invited to any conference...

Re: Game 2D: @ Marshall - 11/7 @2:30pm
Excellent news !!! Glad to have this game and another opportunity for our team to prepare to improve and develop. I had hoped to see a game against Army and hopefully we can get a few more games scheduled including Army. Our team needs the practices and game experiences in order to keep improving a...

Re: 2020 Season
The fact that UMass is being a follower rather than a leader in this situation is somewhat reprehensible. I think the biggest fear that schools like UMass have of cancelling football is the fact that the old line of "alumni support will go down the toilet if there is no football" will be p...

Re: 2020 Season
The fact that the NCAA is willing to risk lives simply because of the money involved in football says everything you need to know about their guiding principles. That UMass is playing along is just as bad in my opinion.

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!
We also had a higher average attendance when we were FCS during the 2000s because the quality of the UMass football product was far superior to present day. We’d be up near 20k per game if we were even half decent. Nobody wants to watch terrible football whether it’s fbs or fcs. I agree 100% and th...
