78's line of 5-9 points a little low.

Local paper has line 5+9 points.

UMass is a two touchdown favorite.

Siena's glory days are in the past and is a cupcake.

UMass has to look to upgrde its talent. If it seriosly wants to go up to a competitive level the talent has to be upgraded.

LS asked:

Am I remembering correctly about the gambling thing and the 'greeting' bestowed on BC by the fans at the Cage that night?

You misremembered LS. BC was roundly booed. Cousy, on the other hand, was greeted warmly. He was, after all, a Celtic icon long before anyone knew what an icon ...

He may have been one of your favorite players, but he wasn't coaching BC in 71. He was in the NBA with the Royals. Hall of Fame coach Chuck Daly was coaching BC. The 71 game was the one where Julius cruised in backwards during warm-ups, saw the refs weren't watching, and slammed home a thunder ...

After that game Syracuse would not play us at home anymore.

It's a good story. It's not true, but it's still a good story. UMass and Syracuse played the next three years; two at Manley Field House and once at the Cage. Syracuse won all three gams.

Interesting anomaly about the ...

No. There is no effective system that will win without a decent point guard. It is also important to have bigs that have some scoring ability.

The coaching staff has assembled these mismatched parts. Until they bring in some players to address this deficiency NO system will work. I see a new ...

They had two good point guards and their bigs were good shooters, but the difference was clearly the coaching.
Let's see. UMass has no point guard and the bigs are awful shooters. Sounds like a personnel problem.

For you folks wringing your hands over, "not making it to Atlantic City" (where the Minutemen have fared so well).

The tournament format has changed. Fordham and some other hapless team, quite possibly your UMass Minutemen, don't have to worry about post-season play. On March 9 the 9-12 finishers ...

I won't contradict the numbers that are accurate. I will point out that the numbers from last year were dragged down by the two worst crowds of ...

Since dr. j asked the question I'll provide the answer. LOOK IN THE HISTORICAL SCOREBOARDS

UMass went 0-4 against those four schools in the 2000-2001 season.

While you're at it you can also refrain from posting moronic polls about the make up of the Conference or UMass' participation in some ...

LS-- I think Ryan was referring to a Feb. 26, 1976 81-79 win over PC. The game would have been, "over 14 years ago" from the January 1992 win over Oklahoma. The Friars were in and out of the Top 20 all that season That UMass team lost a berth in the NCAA when they dropped a 69-73 game to UConn in a ...

I researched it after the fact. According to the historical scoreboards Holy Cross was in the Top 20 each of Heinsohn's three years., 53-54, 54-55, 55-56. The HC team that won the NCAA was in 1947 and was led by George Kaftan. Cousy played as a freshman on that team. Kaftan became a dentist and ...
