Re: Dick Hoss

Thanks for posting. He was one of several leading athletes of our time to play both sports. The other names that come quickly to mind were Billy Maxwell and Bob Foote. Maxwell was the football qb and Foote an All-American lineman.

I did not know that about Studley. I can't imagine Greg Garber ...

Dick Hoss

My apologies if this has already been posted, but didn't see it. Doing my periodic dive through the obits section of the alum site and saw that Dick Hoss, one of my LCA brothers, had passed away. Dick was one of Dick Garber's early All American awardees (twice) back in the early 1960's. You can read ...

Re: Point shaving in men's college hoop

Maybe a sign of the times? All from lower tier ($$$ wise) schools. Getting relative peanuts in NIL money and looking at the 6 figure deals the guys at the power conference schools are getting? The BCS started turning me off on college football. The NIL may finish the job with college bb.

Nope Sacramento State in the Big Sky.
Yep. Had some maturity issues early on. Got through them and had a couple of pretty decent seasons.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

This is why NIL exists. The NCAA will NEVER let the student athletes unionize. To have the athletes become "employees" opens an entire can of worms that neither the academic or athletic side of the Universities want to even consider.

Re: Where Have You Seen UMass play?

^ Fall of 58 we started together. You are correct that the first home game was BU with Jack Leaman. One thing that seems strange now is that our hoops seasons did not start until after the Thanksgiving break.

Must be someone older lurking out there. :)

Also strange that first game out of the ...

Re: Where Have You Seen UMass play?

I started out in Class of '62, so first in-person game would have been Fall of '58. As I recall, the first scheduled home game had to be postponed because the janitorial crew put too much oil on the floor and it was treacherously slick. Don't remember for sure, but first home game that was actually ...

Re: Game 19, 2023-24: Saint Joe's (1/23)

^ Agreed. It was a good crowd and the building was loud when we built our big lead and then again for the final few possessions. For anyone complaining about the size of the crowd, I'll just ask: did you go to the game? I know some fans are older or live in different parts of the country, but if ...

Attendance showed as 3200. They can't be getting much of boost from the crowd coming down the stretch. It makes a difference.

We won't be part of it. I seriously doubt BC will be either.

Is this the time to ponder if the program is headed in the right direction? With a win today I would have said probably. Now, not so sure.
