Matt's article gives us the most comprehensive info on the state of the players.

Re: New UMass coach Matt McCall
I am actually intrigued that he doesn't have much high-level playing experience. Going from student manager to assistant on Billy Donovan's staff to head coach is a hell of a rise. You have to work a lot harder to get to this point in the coaching profession if you don't have the playing experience ...

I wasn't sold at first, but I've digested it and am excited to see what he can do. Hope the players buy in and stick around for next year (and beyond).
Looking forward to the press conference today.

Um Max, if someone wanted to triple my salary and hand over the keys to a $20m hoops facility after 2 days I would probably do it never mind 2 years.
Of course, I realize that angle. I probably flipped that logic around, and it's more of an issue of him not sustaining success on his own over a ...

Re: New UMass coach Matt McCall
Could have done better, could have done worse. I'll take it I guess, and move forward with cautious optimism.
Good luck Coach McCall, and here's to a brighter future for UMass Mens Basketball.
Who is in the "could have done better" category that was a reasonable expectation? Just curious.

Re: Candidates for 2017 UMass HC vacancy
How do you like me now?
Sincerely, Seth Greenberg
Would have taken Greenberg in a heartbeat over McCall. At least his players respect him!
Seriously? I'm not a huge fan of McCall necessarily, but would have taken just about anyone over bloviating Seth Greenberg.

Re: Candidates for 2017 UMass HC vacancy
Skerry has something Bamford likes: he's recruited the northeast in previous jobs.
Yeah, he has an interesting resume as an assistant for Pitt/Providence/URI/Charleston. He's also from Medford originally and played at Tufts.
His Towson record doesn't jump off the page, but really can't emphasize ...

Here's a longer article from Blaudschun with some new info/speculation: https://tmgcollegesports.com/2017/03/28/umass-mystey-tour-continunes-but/
1) claims Caputo has spoken with Bamford twice, but no offer either
2) says a "mystery candidate" is thought to be in running along with CC and MS

No job offer doesn't sound positive. If we end up with Greenberg after this mess...yikes.

Re: Candidates for 2017 UMass HC vacancy
I understand the reservations around Shrewsberry, and I would also rank him behind a number of the coached we were initially linked with:
- Rhodes, Kelsey, Caputo, Dooley (of these, Dooley is the only one we haven't heard any more info about)
At the same time, if those 4 are all out of the equation ...

Re: Candidates for 2017 UMass HC vacancy
Things seem to be heading in a positive direction. I'd like the hire and I think it would make some nice headlines in Boston...something UMass alums can be proud of, and a reason for casual sports fans to think about UMass hoops for the first time in a few years.
I'd expect the players to be ...

Re: Candidates for 2017 UMass HC vacancy
As was pointed out before, UMass has tried and lost with playing the "assistant" game. I'd say that takes Caputo out, and Shrewsbury seems to not even be a real contender anyway.
So one assistant coach doesn't work out, and now we have to consider C-list head coaches before any assistants? That ...
