“I’m disappointed about what we had to do, but I don’t regret it,” DeFilippo said. “We could have looked the other way, but you can’t sacrifice your academics and your integrity to get wins.”

Of course you can, Gene. College programs do it all the time. It’s what helped get UMass into the Final Four.
Thanks for sticking up for the alma mater there Buckley.

This guy is a UMass alum?

If he is he should be stripped of his UMass diploma, tared, feathered and run out of town. Another thing that could be done is I think that they have the old pilgrim punishment stalls, or whatever they were called, out on the common in Boston. You know the ones where they would put the head and arms of the person that was being punished in and lock them in. We could put him in there for a day or two with some appropriate sign. I am sure that signman could come up with something appropriate.

I haven't been on board the Bash Buckley train as much as most people here. Until today, that is.

Next time he wants a press credential to a UMass hoop game, Media Relations should seat him directly in front of the band.

Fu@%er.

Does it get anyworse than this? Write a glowing article about shitty Boston College basketball. Talk about how great they were for not looking the other way? I got news for you Steve Fuckley, they did look the other way, for two years. Only when things got so insanley out of hand did they act. Congrats...

And then to take a shot at his own alma mader is just the icing on the cake. What an ass.

To his credit, coach Al Skinner refuses to play the role of used car salesman, standing out on the lot and shouting into the television cameras, “Come on down and watch exciting Boston College basketball!”

Is it just me or does this seem like a dig at Calipari and Ford as well?

He was on the Big Show for the first time in a while the other day. He's a goddam waste of space and adds nothing to any sports conversation. I hope he keeps writing his shitty puff pieces about this bad BC team.

Buckley has not done his homework on the history of UMass hoops and how the coaches react.
Cal's first year, he suspends 3.
HWSNBN takes Briggs, suspends him, with the teams consent gives him a second chance, then boots him when he doesn't meet the standard.
How about the academically challenged kids who have come in, done their year of academic basic training, then graduated with honors? Anyone remember Ty Weeks?

Waste no more time on Buckley. He is not worth the energy or the thought process. He is a garden slug's dumber cousin.

How dare he make a statement that has been proven true! Oh the nerve of him...

the article sucked, but what he said is a fact, not conjecture.

How is it a fact? Yes, the Final Four was vacated for using an ineligible player. But since the NCAA cleared the school itself for any wrong doing, how was the school sacrificing academics and its integrity?

He wrote a great article on UMass football during the playoffs, so I don't get this.

I can understand him writing a piece about BC......that's fine and dandy. But to throw that fucking little jab in their about UMass.....it's completely unnecessary, adds nothing to the piece. Keep the piece about BC and BC only and he's fine. And to know that he's a UMass alum and he drops this little jab in there just makes me more mad.

Didn't Cal suspend Mike Williams right before the NCCA's in 1995?

Just checked out Mike Williams stats in one of the media guides I have .

In the 91/92 season he played in 33 games and started 4, in 92/93 played in 25 and started 1, in 93/94 he played in 31 and started 27 and in 94/95 he played in 20 and started 11. In Dana Dingle stats for 94/94 Dana played in 34 games and started 31. That shows that Mike missed 14 games in the 94/95 season for what ever reasons.
