Thanks for this, just shared it on Twitter. I've seen that video floating around before but can't remember where. LOVE the opening with the facade of the old Garden.

UMass and BC need to get their shit together... this game should happen every single year.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

That was a crazy week between the Arkansas and Kansas games -- specifically, the time between when the AP poll came out with UMass at #1 and our flight to California the following Thursday. I must have done a dozen interviews with other regional and national sports outlets, all looking to get the lowdown on what Cal later called "that little team in Amherst." They must have thought the radio PBP guy might know a thing or two about what got UMass to #1. Sorry if I disappointed, gents.

I think my Wooden Classic sweatshirt is still stuffed in a dresser drawer somewhere. Probably reeks of cedar.

Just watched the UMass-Stanford game. Great fun. Looked like UMass had 20 blocks - although fewer on the scoresheet. That team was crazy good - Camby, Roe, Weeks, Dingle, Bright up front, plus Kellogg, Travieso, Padilla and Mike Williams (although he was gone by tournament time). Kellogg looked pretty dapper with his goatee and sideburns.

Yes it was, with George Raveling doing the color.

UMass at Temple, 1990 A10 Final, 3.8.90

If you look at the date, you know it was a tough one for use, patching together a Gurlufson team with Cal's first group of recruits but interesting game to watch and the video is pretty good quality. Go UMass!

That was a hell of a run, my senior year. They entered the A-10 tournament as the 6 seed, then destroyed West Virginia in the QF at the Palestra (*) and edged out Penn State in the semis the next night.

Three days later it was back to Philly, this time at McGonigle Hall. Obviously they didn't pull it out, but between that and the 3 OT game at the Cage weeks earlier it was clear the gap with Temple had closed to razor thin. They made the NIT and lost in the first round at Maryland.

(* - That WVU game was a Sunday afternoon. Later that night word got out that Hank Gathers -- a Philly legend -- had collapsed on the court and died. It was incredibly surreal as word started circulating through the crowd, obviously in the days pre-social media or cell phones.)
