Game 8: @ Hofstra @ noon on Saturday

Post by Old Cage » Thu Mar 19, 2015 10:33 am

First league game. We are the first game of a doubleheader. Denver/Penn State is the nightcap.

8-5 Gorillas after three. The video is crashing every few seconds here.

We have 8 goals on only 10 shots on goal. The Pride have 5 on 16.

We struggle again on face-offs, winning 5 of 15.

Now 9-7 with 5 1/2 left.

9-7 final. Hat trick for Hegarty.

Great win by UMass today, 1-0 in CAA! Could season be finally turning around? On to Towson next week....

Excellent win against a decent Hofstra team. Canella, the staff and team deserve some solid credit here. They really got off to a craptastic start and looked like a team that might not win more than 2-3 games.

I see we struggled again on faceoffs. In the end, that could be a killer.

#15 Ohio State just got shut out by #3 Notre Dame. I don't recall the last time a ranked team got skunked like that. Damn!!

Ehh, 0-5 looked terrible, but 4 of those 5 are in the top 12 right now (at least in the computers... Voters still slow to warm up to Brown and Albany). We're where we normally are - about the 20th-25th best team in the country, in a CAA where every game can go either way, only this year we know we need the autobid instead of being on the bubble. Harvard is the one loss that stings a lot, but it would probably still be autobid or bust even with a W there given the committee's proclivities.

Edit - but yes, great to be on the positive side of a close game. One more on the road, then 3 at home to finish off the CAA preseason round-robin, and we only need to win 1 or at most 2 of the last 4 CAA games to get in the conference tournament.

As crazy as this sounds, and as much as I should not post this, the CAA is not overly impressive this year and with any luck, we could run the regular season table. Towson and Fairfield appear to be the toughest opponents, and neither is great. While our defense has significantly improved, the problems at faceoff have not, and in the end that could be the killer.

Syracuse is PASTING Duke in the Dome right now.....13-1 and it's not even halftime. Duke is supposedly the #4 team in the country. Looks like we could see another Orange title this year unless someone else can step it up.

"Cuse and N.D. - adding to the ACC "we're all dancing" theme song. Yeech. CAA - just the auto-bid.

Alma Mater 2 - Cornell - is starting to rise up again.

Agreed Econ.....as always, all the ACC teams will dance. It's going to take many more schools to add lax in order for there to be more parity. The ACC will get everyone invited and Hopkins will get an invite, and then the auto bids. Alas, once the B1GTen schools get rolling, they will take up all of the non-auto bids.
