Game 15, 2016-17: at George Mason (1/4)
Re: Game 15, 2016-17: at George Mason (1/4)
So GM shot 1 more 2pt bucket than we did, but 21 more ft's? Did UMass all of a sudden become a team in love with pull up 15 foot jumpers?

Hard for anyone not to get discouraged. This season will be full of this type of game, flashes of brilliance with lots of mistakes and aweful decisions. Just wish i could see some coaching. Granted the players need to execute but i see no system to help them do that. We cant hit anything when we need to.

If you listened to the radio broadcast, you’re assumption that there is no direction would be unfounded. All you could hear was DK reassuring and providing instruction to the guys. The radio guys’ mic/station must have been right next to our bench. The too young is probably correct. They will progress. It is a long season. This game was light years ahead of the Bonnies fiasco. Pipkins is what he is. He shot better than Clark tonight BTW. GM beat us shooting the 3. Something they don’t do well, usually. We shot a better percentage than them. We turned the ball over and fouled too much (especially in the first half). The adjustments made in the second half reduced the turnovers and fouls, until we fouled on purpose. We just couldn’t shoot in the second half. We also out rebounded them, which is not something that happens to them. The toughest thing to learn is how to defend at this level. That is where our real weakness is. We are scoring enough points to win.

Pipkins shot 40% from 3 tonight. I'll take that every game from him.bunkerhill87 wrote:pipkins a massive liabilty on offense. ,

We had 7 total FTA in the entire game and 47 2ptFGA, GMU had 28 FTA and 48 2ptFGA. 22 fouls for UMass vs 11 for GMU. There was no equality between the two teams in what was considered a foul by the officials. Holloway got hacked all game long but drew 1 foul as far as I can recall. GMU players consistently drove the ball directly into UMass defenders and got bailed out on calls. As you said, Jenkins consistently lowered his shoulder and used his elbows, not once called on him.utterlyoptimistic wrote:My only complaint with the officiating is that they allowed the Mason center to consistently lower his shoulder when he had the ball to establish position/create space down low. If Holloway attempted to do that he would foul out before the first four-minute break.NilesGold wrote:I've never been this heated about officiating. Tonight's officiating was criminal. 5 total shots for deeky, of which 3 were the last few minutes....But pipkins gets another double digit 3 pt attempt game. Yes he hit 4-10, but finished 1-6.

Which is it? Do you want him to be a media star or go coach the guys. He should be with them. They should have won this and they know it. They need to not pack it in. He needs to process this game with them right now. I’m glad he skipped the presser.tdmass wrote:DK should have spent more time with them before the game! He's a coward!

I’ll take 4-10 from any player from 3.

Last year it was regular cellar dweller Fordham with its first year coach that swept and surpassed UMass (and its 8 year head coach) in the A10. This year it is George Mason with its second year coach who looks to do the same. Let that sink in for a minute.

This is totally unfair.tdmass wrote:DK should have spent more time with them before the game! He's a coward!
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

1-6 in the 2nd half and taking off balanced, hand in his face shots is piss poor. Go to the hoop...Your mini hot streak is over.minutefanjsf wrote:Tman1319 wrote:5 total shots for deeky, of which 3 were the last few minutes....But pipkins gets another double digit 3 pt attempt game. True, but the total FTAs are a bit misleading as they must have taken 12-14 free throws in the last 2 minutes when we started fouling Moore. I believe he alone hit 7 of his last 8 in the final 2 minutes.NilesGold wrote:We had 7 total FTA in the entire game and 47 2ptFGA, GMU had 28 FTA and 48 2ptFGA. 22 fouls for UMass vs 11 for GMU. Scoring 81 points and sharing the ball the way they did, especially in the first half, for the open shots shows you the offense works. It’s not complicated and has very few set plays, but it is a system. Hitting shots is not the same as an offense. The offense is much better than it has been. How many entry passes made it in to the paint tonight?
