Infractions 2014-2017

UMass was reasonable and cooperative in the process, yet had to spend $100,000 to defend itself for MINOR violations. UMass did not gain an advantage, self reported, and was hit with disproportionate penalties. What’s the incentive to self report? None.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions (COI) isn’t always wrong. However, it is far too often wrong in its adjudication and penalties. This is yet another example of over-penalizing simple, unintentional administrative errors. The COI needs major reform.

I want to hear from Bamford on exactly what the probation entails. If it impacts post-season play I will be very concerned. I'm sure many of you got the same Email i got and it didn't clarify anything for me.
Edit:
I did some research and I hope I'm right. Here's a chart that shows penalties for various levels of infractions. The NCA report called it "Level II". If you look at the chart, a $5,000 fine is in the "mitigation" classification. If we are in fact in the mitigation classification, there are no post-season bans.
Please take a look at this and see what you think. It's complicated for a non-attorney.

Directly from the NCAA site, mentions all the penalties. For UM, there is no direct mention of post-season ban, which is its own penalty, so I would guess that is not part of the penalty..

Bamford in today's Gazette article: https://www.gazettenet.com/NCAA-hammers ... s-36831600
Obviously I'm a homer, but I agree with Ryan and Jay Bilas. They discovered that there was an issue, self-reported, and got whacked any way. It was a minor infraction with no benefit to recruiting or gaining a competitive advantage on the court. We all know the NCAA has no compass whatsoever, but it sucks to be the "little guy" in a scenario like this. Between this and mystical waiver process, I have no faith in the NCAA to act consistently and appropriately on any level. I'm disappointed, but in no way am I the least bit shocked.“It’s shaken me and shaken my belief. As a practitioner I’m disappointed,” he said. “I grew up, my dad (Steve) was in this business as an athletic director, now I have the opportunity to lead a department and I’ve always looked favorably upon the NCAA and the enforcement and infractions and all the things that it takes to be a good member in good standing, and this has been hard today because we do so much to protect, provide for our student-athletes and this is something where we really truly feel like we had something taken away and it’s just not fair.”

People will see how unfair this is if they look beyond the headlines.

UMass AD Ryan Bamford is absolutely right about this one: UMass way overpunished by NCAA.
Re: Infractions 2014-2017
The NCAA is a corrupt joke, without the humor.
Re: Infractions 2014-2017
Good article Matt, thanks for clarifying the whole thing
Wonder who the 4 players who got removed from the dorms were? Never heard about that before

When did we become Cleveland State?
The NCAA did not punish North Carolina after the fake classes in 2017 but they come after us for this?
And as a Yankee fan, fuck Dave Roberts too!
Fuck them!
