Infractions 2014-2017

Not sure if it's basketball, football or something else... this thread can go to the appropriate spot at that time.

I cannot recall being part of anything recently... the only major thing was the court situation with Roe and DK.

There have certainly been rumors about the last DK class.

Football? Hockey? Nothing comes to mind.

I don't know what they are investigating but I have heard more rumors about BB under DK than any other sport. If it is BB I sure hope they don't penalize the current players for misdeeds by people no longer with the program.

Agreed. Punish the program, not the players.

Maybe some good news. Mike Traini's info is usually pretty accurate.

Heard from some sources about pending Committee on Infractions decision regarding UMass. Appears related to smaller violations in multiple sports dating back 5 years, audit just finished. Could be things that were self-reported. "Nothing particularly scandalous" per one source

^

Yep, I feel better about it already.

Mike/Admins - please feel free to move this thread elsewhere as it looks like it won't be basketball specific.

The NCAA ruling: https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/me ... two-sports
The committee said the violations occurred as a result of a former associate athletics director’s misunderstanding of financial aid rules and administrative error.

The excessive financial aid rendered the student-athletes ineligible. NCAA rules require member schools to withhold ineligible student-athletes from competition until their eligibility is restored, regardless of the school’s knowledge.
How are you supposed to withhold them from competition if you have no knowledge that they were ineligible? The report makes no assertion that this was a scheme to skirt the rules and acknowledges it was a misunderstanding of rules and an admin error.

It is about 10 men's basketball players and two women tennis players moving off campus and the messing up the aide calculations for a combine 9,187 dollars

The main question for me is getting an explanation of what the probation entails. Anyone have info on this? I care a little about the forfeited games and records (not very much) but what's important are the restrictions on BB for the next 2 years.

Lets hope this doesn't interfere with any post season play or Tre Mitchell's career here will be very short, as might others

^ I don't think the NCAA's probation tag stretches to a ban on post-season play, though they didn't really clarify what probation exactly meant.

Still up in the air as UM is appealing, but I'm not too concerned.

Meanwhile big name programs get caught buying hookers and blow for the players, and players not attending classes and the NCAA is all "Well, I mean the evidence is you know a little murky... Let's fine them $82 and take away their next exhibition game win."
