2020 Season
Re: 2020 Season
Yeah there have been a lot more cases tied to Sturgis than 26 for sure.
Additionally, since people decided to act like college football wouldn't be a "super spreader" there's things like these going around:
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... oronavirus
https://sports.yahoo.com/75-texas-tech- ... 22621.html
Two teams where the vast majority of players have contracted COVID. Much higher percentages than the general population, and a higher percentage than even the portion of the population that's just "college students"
Sure, they're not necessarily spreading it beyond the teams, but those are still super spreader events to get approaching 100% of a population.

Re: 2020 Season
College football has not been found to be a super spreader thus far.
Most of the LSU players tested positive back in June after hanging out socially in baton rouge saloons since then they've been quarantined, recovered and have been banned from the bars. As for Texas Tech - they have 6 active cases in quarantine and 69 recoveries since testing began. They were able to play the season opener. Most of these cases were most likely quite mild or asymptomatic. Partying is most likely a super spreader as we have seen from the LSU situation and reports of so called "Covid Parties" of college students here in the northeast - which sounds insane to me but is a thing apparently.

Now the MAC is looking to jump back in and play an 8 game season with the title game on weekend of Dec 16-17.

Not being conference affiliated is going to screw Umass bad, real bad.
Also, in a related note, noticed in the Kyle Horn article about his transfer one of things he was excited about was to get to play in a conference.

Re: 2020 Season
Who’s gonna be left to play? Mountain West Conference (for now), Old Dominion, New Mexico State, UConn (if they decide to renege on their promise not to play spring ball). I really can’t see UMass spring ball happening this academic year, though that can change at any time, because 2020. Onto 2021.
Re: 2020 Season
Sure feels like we’re about to be left behind
Re: 2020 Season
Spring football makes no sense now. Either put together a late-season schedule (which I'm not sure is advisable although I'm willing to see if the data suggests otherwise), or wait until next fall.

Re: 2020 Season
Agreed. I'll certainly support Spring Football if it happens, but if they are not going forward with the Fall then just hold off until next year.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades
Re: 2020 Season
Yup, shouldn't have overreacted so quickly. Hopefully this doesn't screw the program long term with a mass exodus of players. If we hadn't officially cancelled, I'm sure we could have cobbled some sort of schedule together or see if we can jump on with some conference for this year. Hell, the Sun Belt would have been fine and they actually have some pretty good teams, they rolled the Big 12 last week.
Re: 2020 Season
1 game spring schedule w/ukon.... why bother?
Re: 2020 Season
WTF! We have a very young inexperienced team! They need game experience and that is way they should play as many games as possible between now and Fall of 2021. Granted with the fiscally constraints. Don't under stand why it's a game instead of a home and home with UConn. Like to see a home and home with Old Dominion for 4 games this spring.
Go UMass!!
Re: 2020 Season
the plan should be to convince UConn and New Mex state to restart and play each team twice this Fall. I think Liberty still has an open date too. That should be the plan if the administration has their heads screwed on straight. Even it is just a 3 game schedule. Spring football is not happening.

It would be better than nothing but I don’t see it happening.Steve81 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 6:43 pm WTF! We have a very young inexperienced team!
