2020-21 season

Post by 78 » Sun Apr 05, 2020 11:06 pm

Just saw on Twitter that junior Paige McCormick is transferring. Surprised she’s going to sit out a year to play one year somewhere else. let’s hope there is a 20-21 season.

^ Huh. That suggests that she knows she would once again be coming off our bench again as a senior. That can be taken as a positive for us, as it suggests that someone is arriving to take Hailey's spot.

I said I’m surprised she is leaving...she played a bigger role this past season than 2 years ago...I’m always surprised when a player leaves and sits out a year to play one year. Maybe she’s a grad transfer and won’t have to sit out, but I’ve seen no details. I’m assuming freshman Makennah White and transfer Maddie Sims will take the minutes. My comment related to the 20-21 season in a comment on COVID-19 and how that might impact next year’s athletic seasons.

WTF? I guess she doesn’t think she will get playing time with Philoxy and the Temple transfer probably getting big minutes. Honestly though, I don’t get this one. She was a captain this past season.

Honestly, I thought one or both of these could happen. I do think they helped bring the program to its current trajectory and have helped UMass make tremendous strides. With the talent currently on the court (Breen, Philoxy, Donnelly) and incoming (heard Desiree Oliver is a scoring threat every trip down the court), Hampton-Bey will be relegated deeper down the bench. Tory seems to like a 6-7 person rotation. I thought she was one of the best players to come off the bench in the A-10 but I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to transfer to a place where she can regularly start. Seemed like Destiney was the preferred option to start and Bre only started when Des sprained her ankle.

Paige seemed to regularly be on the hot seat. Two years ago, she played like 1-2 minutes per game in the A10. When Breen became eligible, she went from starting to maybe 5-10 minutes per game.

Also, the probable new rules on transfers impact the decision.

This is very common move for the men and now the women are using it for the reasons (mainly more playing time) as kiko has stated. I watched a LOT of the women's team this year and these two moves are NO Brainers . . . neither of these kids were going to play more and most likely a lot less what with is coming in next year and Verdi is slowly but surely making this team better and better . . . relax 78!

It's time for them to update the roster for 20-21. I try to keep up but I really don't know who all the players are for the upcoming season. The men's roster has been up for weeks now.

I would like to see the updated roster, even if its not finalized, you can always make changes? I already miss Haley, Vash, Bree, and Paige, but I can't wait to see the new team. And a nice article about the freshmen and transfers (if we have any transfers?) How about a summary of all the 2021 commitments, I think there are 3 or 4 very impressive young ladies already committed from that class.

FWIW different sports information directors are responsible for men’s basketball and women’s basketball.

It's either coincidence or someone reads this board. Either way, the roster is up. It's called the "Summer Roster" so there might be changes. It looks like 11 players and 1 sit-out transfer.
