2019-20 Season
Re: 2019-20 Season
It should be noted that 11-4-1 is pretty darn good.
All 4 losses are 1 goal losses save empty net goals.

Re: 2019-20 Season
^^^ That is what is so crazy. By almost any standard, the team is having a great year, especially compared to where they were 3 or 4 years ago. Expectations changed-rather unfairly. Top 10 any year is great for a team that was a bottom feeder for so very long. Hats off to the team and Carvel and here is hoping that they continue to improve and make some noise in the HE and NCAA tourneys.
Re: 2019-20 Season
Those past two posts are exactly my point. it's crazy to think I was getting disappointed by what measures up to still being a good season.
Sometimes it's fun to be spoiled...but can't let that get us bitter about it.

I think it's called "The Calipari Syndrome".

Re: 2019-20 Season
Anyone have mid season predictions for this team? 12-4-1 as of today. Last year notched 30 wins. At what number of wins would you be pleased? Let's begin with IV's default position of winning out (no offense intended). Where does this team go from here?
Re: 2019-20 Season
My definition of success would be qualifying for the tournament. Currently just inside the top 10 in pairwise and have been without arguably our best defenseman for most of the season. They are playing some of their best hockey heading into this mini-break and I think if they were to fall out of "at large" territory I would be pretty sour. Obviously this is not-withstanding to injury.
Re: 2019-20 Season
^^^I agree. Qualifying for the NCAAs is a great goal and would show some consistency of the program. Last year's and this year's teams are not dominated by upperclassmen and it is quite clear that players from all four years are contributing. Carvel has a good thing going with new and returning players.
The challenge for the rest of the season is the schedule 8 games against team is the lower third of the country but 9 games against ranked teams. How they play in those 9 games will go a long way in deciding if they make the NCAA tournament. I wish them the best! GO UMASS!

According to today's (12/24) Hampshire Gazette, Zac Jones has been named to the USA roster for the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic. Jones will definitely miss the RPI game and likely miss the Denver trip. Possibly more.

Re: 2019-20 Season
Today:
"Trevor Zegras with a behind the back pass to Zac Jones, who jumped into the slot and fired a wrister past goalie Tobias Ancicka to give USA a 2-1 lead over Germany in the final :90 of the first period"
And as I write, another Zac wrister on a power play sets up the U.S.A. fifth goal.

Sitting nicely at #8 in Pairwise. Really tough few weekends of games coming up. I’d be happy splitting with Denver and BC, and ecstatic if we take 5 points or more.

Re: 2019-20 Season
One doesn't get points for non-conference games. So 5 points would be exceptional with only 4 on the table.
