Dan Shaughnessy

Post by UncleDov » Tue Nov 12, 2019 3:18 pm

I post this here because many members do not read Football Forum.

Dan Shaughnessy chimes in with this column today which will likely appear in tomorrow’s Globe, maybe on front page ....

Should we at least give Walt Bell one or two years to try to improve the situation ?

While I don’t support his conclusion, because the university has made the commitment to FBS and isn’t going to drop it without at least giving Bell a shot to make it work, I honestly don’t see anything wrong with the article. It’s honest and accurate.

Don't subscribe and can not see his comments. But anything to do with football would not surprise me with him or fault with UMass AD etc in the past. The move to FBS should have been done in 1998. Support going there. But when we announce going independence, almost every poster on cnnbbs said we would not be able to recruit as an independent, but also question if we could schedule. Bamford has done a great job considering with scheduling. The previous guy screwed us with almost all P5. Not the sole cause but we have no winning culture at the moment. Also a strong arguement could have been made to do some stadium updates with the minimum necessary package for going FBS.
Go UMass!!

Very few people here will be able to see his comments, and that's probably a good thing.

The "Curly-Haired Boyfriend" has been the subject of much rage here over the years.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

We may not be happy to have this so visible, but go to the FB forum and see how many cannot deny the facts on this program, in the doldrums, and getting demonstrably worse.

that guy was such a jerk when I was in school during the hoops glory. Always trying to bring us down with what seemed like a vendetta. Here though he has the data. Is it possible the president had some more positive quotes that were not printed? short term where are our surrogates to hype up the admittedly maroon tinted future recruiting classes? im in nyc but does this guy have such a following that we need to worry of a groundswell of poor press and petitions?

Moving this to the right place.

I, for one, don't really want to know about football this season, they're so atrociously bad.

There is nothing wrong with what he asked.

His delivery is just very dick-ish and snarky..... His is not quite the know-it-all he comes off as.

I will only say that a while back - I vividly remember Temple being right were we are today. Vegas wouldn't even post a number on their games because they were so bad. For that reason alone I have hope. The one thing Temple did that nobody today does is have patience. We can say we have been around this 10 time already, but in reality we have not.

We are in not quite one full year 1 of the new guy. Fucking Saban isn't winning games with this roster. Considering how late in the recruiting cycle he started - I think he did a good job getting some solid potential guys here. The class so far is decent too. He has 30 OPEN spots to fill and he is doing it carefully and with a lot of thought. That is how you build something. I think we all saw how that worked with Hoops last year.....

Temple football should have been disbanded back in the 90's and it wasn't - Umass shouldn't now either.

Things had gotten so bad that Temple went so far as to have the university president formally recommend disbanding the program to the board of trustees in 2004.

Temple was horrific from 1989-2005. Good lord I hope we don’t have another 8 years before we get better. :D
