Another tough one today. Man, I just wonder if another season like this one would just wipe out any remaining fan base, that may never come back.Transition is always tough, but I wonder how long we can go without any sort of success. We're in a tough spot right now.

2018 UConn Defense:
Passing 282 yds
Rushing 335 yds
Total 617 yds
Scoring 50.4 pts

2019 UMass Defense as of 11/2:
Passing 301 yds (126th in FBS)
Rushing 269 yds (Last)
Total 570 yds (Last)
Scoring 52.0 pts (Last)

Note - ULM is the second-worst team in total yards at 495 yds.

All measures are per game (not that needed to be stated).

To match UConn in total yards given up, UMass has to give up an average of 758 yds over the next three games.

This will all behind us as we sit in a 25 degree Yankee Stadium playing in the Pinstripe Bowl or perhaps with some bigger success and find ourselves in a 20 degree Fenway Park getting ready for the Ortiz Bowl😁😁

If the offense was good enough to keep the games remotely competitive these numbers would be so much worse.

The 2019 and 2020 recruiting class not bad when you compare them to the teams we are hoping to compete with, However I'm very concerned about D line and lack of a QB. Puzzled on what Bell sees in Brito other than the fact he is his recruit. YOU CANNOT RUN A READ OPTION OFFENSE WHEN THE QB IS UNWILLING TO KEEP THE BALL AND RUN. They are too easy to defend he either hands the ball off or pulls back to throw. No runs. Read option offense should include all 3 options. Also probably due to his size, but hardly no short to medium passes over the middle. Everything is either sideline or long throws he can get over defenders. HOPING FOR A LIGHT AT END OF TUNNEL.

This is really a tough season to be a UMass fan, real tough. Its painful to watch games, and I feel for the players. Just hope getting blown out week after week doesn't put this program in such a hole that it can't get out of it. Don't know what positives can come out of this year

The Minutemen are now 15-67 since moving “up.” 15-67. Dudes on this board can blame Charley Molnar, Marc Whipple and Walt Bell. And, when Bell eventually gets fired you can blame the next coach for his inevitable string of losing seasons and shitty attendance. It is awfully hard to undo bad mistakes.

The article by the globe was brutal as always. What was sobering was President Meehans comments. For the first time I am genuinely worried about losing the football program. I gave up on the cause of moving back down to the FCS because of the damage the loss of scholarships would cause. Cutting football would crush the department and our brand. Oh yeah what would we do with our world class marching band?! It is shocking we are at this point.

Meehans comments were not that shocking to me, he’s well versed in passing the buck as a lifetime MA pol. UMass system presidents have consistently undermined the real and only UMass for decades. This is just another case of that. It’s annoying but predictable from that office. Move the physical building out of Boston and maybe we’ll get someone that stands up for the flagship.

The rant from the Curly Headed Boyfriend wasn’t particularly surprising. What was surprising was that Meehan’s comments weren’t particularly supportive of the program. If the president of the university isn’t supportive of the football program, why should the fans be supportive? Reminds me of Swamy’s quote about moving football back to FCS after he became chancellor (he did back off from that).

In addition, Meehan deflected responsibility, indirectly pointing to the campus leadership. If political pressure becomes too much for Marty, it wouldn’t shock me to see him throw a campus leader under the bus to score political points.

He was actually very supportive. What negative comments did he make? I just read the article.

The direct quotes were ore about how we need to get better and don’t want to get beaten up like we were vs Army. Shaughnessy set up a strange context and inferred heavily around those quotes. He took getting no answer as Meehan not supporting the program. He took Meehan saying the decision is campus based as not supporting the program. Could Meehan have made some bold supportive statements sure. Will he after he speaks with Bamford or Swamy maybe?

The response from the campus administration (Swamy and Bamford) has been appropriate. Ignore.

What was Bamford and Swamy's response?
