Makar gets a shout-out on NHL network as one of five defensemen in NHL history to get at least one point in each of his first five NHL games.
Harry Cameron 1917-18, Hap Day 1924-25, Larry Murphy 1980-81.
Makar can catch and pass Marek Zidlicky who got one point in each of his first six games in 2003-04.

From a tweet by Scott Cullen, a contributor to The Athletic and The Hockey News:

"Avalanche rookie D Cale Makar controlled play (70.4 CF%, 80.6 xGF%) vs. Boston."

Can someone translate these statistics for me?

Corsi For (CF) = Shot attempts for at even strength: Shots + Blocks + Misses

So essentially, they are saying that Colorado had 70.4 percent of shot attempts by both teams when Makar is on the ice. (The theory is that shot attempts are a good indicator of puck possession/control of play.)

xGF (expected goals for) is a much more complicated model that takes into account the types of shot being taken and from where on the ice, and the expected rate that each type of shot produces a goal.
I wrote this ... it's gotta be true.

^ Thanks for the explanation.

I'm astounded by the analytics in all sports right now. Fortunately they still gotta play the game (Makar was late to his man on the fluke game-winning goal tonight) and were not watching robots play the game (like the robot football games on the Jetsons).

No mention of Makar, but it's nice seeing Colorado at #2... right behind Boston. We all know he's been a huge part of where they are right now. Great to see!

Pretty cool site with sortable stats (Cale tied for eighth in defensemen points early on this season).

From Coach Carvel's weekly email: "On Friday night [December 6th] Cale Makar will be returning to the Mullins Center for the unveiling of yet another banner that will forever hang from the rafters recognizing him as the 2019 Hobey Baker Winner! It will be great to have Cale back in the building!"

Makar follows up his 3-point night (goal and 2 assists) a couple of nights ago with two goals tonight in a pair of Avalanche wins.

And somewhere else, I saw the first reference to "Calder Makar"

And --- his goal was #8 on Sportscenter's Top 10 on the same night as Sean East's shot being #1. UMass dominating ESPN.

It's not my intention to report on every Avalanche game and instead, limit my posts to big contributions from Makar. So I guess four assists in Saturday's 5-4 OT win qualifies for a mention. 8)
