Re: 2019-20 season
This is the first piece I have read by Touri and it's pretty good. I think Walfish provides the best coverage and most interesting writing in recent memory. I think he has more than filled Vautour's shoes. Better in my mind. I put him there with Tom Kertes from the Flint era.

I like Waldfish but feel like he always releases his articles multiple days after an event has already been reported. Touri is great.
On a separate note, any details on the trip in August?

Rhody has a pretty good non-conference schedule:

Yeah, pretty decent slate. Enough names to balance out the gimmes.Jackson96 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 10:05 pm Rhody has a pretty good non-conference schedule:

Alabama in Kingston is a return game from Rhody playing in AL in 2017-18. Going to WV is a payback for WV playing URI at Mohegan this past season.
Looks like they may get one more garbage game though. "There is still one more non-conference game to be scheduled as part of the Jamaica Classic." At this point you're gonna be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It's only garbage if you lose... and hopefully they lose!

I like hearing this: “The development of Diallo and Chatman the summer has been through the roof,” said McCall.Juice Stand wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 5:32 am Touri posted another offseason article yesterday: https://dailycollegian.com/2019/07/umas ... -rolls-on/
The team has some experience/depth in guards and centers/bigs, but no forwards except these two and freshman. Santos and Mitchell could be there if needed but F might not be their optimal positions. If Diallo and Chatman have great years, the team will achieve as much as we can hope for.

Re: 2019-20 season
I've been cautiously optimistic about Chatman. He didn't look physically ready to play, and was forced to play out of position at times last year. He showed some development and athleticism toward the end of the season, and I think that should continue, along with him being physically more mature and ready to play down low.

Re: 2019-20 season
There are so many questions about this year's team. I'm not sure I know what to expect from any of the 13 players. We can make educated guesses about Carl, Keon and maybe Djery based on what we saw last year. No idea on KTM. That leaves Samba and Sy. I wholeheartedly agree that their development is one of the biggest keys to any success we might have this year. If the above statement isn't coach speak it gives me reason to be optimistic. They both showed flashes but were very inconsistent.
As for the freshmen, for us to be successful Tre has to be good. Additionally, 2 or 3 of the others have to be contributors. I won't hazard a guess as to who will step up. I'm hoping we get a lot of info during the VI trip. Maybe even figure out the starting lineup.

Re: 2019-20 season
Been a fan of Samba since he got here, for his toughness and D, and I fully expect his offensive game to come around if he's healthy. I think Sy has a much improved year as well. I think playing alongside Tre will be great for Sy. I think the whole team vibe will translate to better play. Sy has the skills and I think the disjointed team last season hurt his development. Think about it, how many first year big men have sat out their first year recently ( Holloway, Hines, Put, Maxie) for whatever reason. Sy was thrown in to the mix on a team with no real frontcourt leader to help him. Tre seems like a real solid, humble kid who is about team, and the skillset of Tre and Sy could work well together.
We really need 2 other freshman to provide solid minutes and contribute consistently. If we get more guys chipping in some minutes here and there, and there isn't a significant dropoff, I think we'll be ok. No matter what, it'll be refreshing to see a tight group all pulling for each other

Saw a Q&A on UMass Basketball's Instagram w/Keon. IHO, Sy is the team's best dunker.

Re: 2019-20 season
It sounds like TJ Weeks should be ready to step in and give good minutes, at the very least as a shooter, so there's one freshman. I have no idea if there's another freshman that'll be reliable. I think the real question is which one of them will be able to provide stability at point guard. Keon will be fine in that role as he showed last year, but he can't play 40/game.Floyd wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 7:09 pm We really need 2 other freshman to provide solid minutes and contribute consistently.
