I'll guess that "Sound" refers to Long Island Sound, since Bridgeport is on its coast, but Sound Tigers? Beats me. Almost as stupid of a name as the Hartford Yard Goats.Juice Stand wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 6:38 pmWait, what the heck is a sound tiger? Or are they the tigers of Bridgeport Sound, in which case, is there even a sound at Bridgeport? According to Wikipedia, a sound is deeper than a bight and wider than a fjord, so you know, whatever that means.MikeUMA wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:19 am UMass at Fairfield confirmed for Saturday, November 9.

Venue is TBD. It may depend largely on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) schedule and the possibility of them using Webster Bank Arena that day. The Sound Tigers' season schedule hasn't been released yet. The Stags use Webster for some of their home games.

I'm thinking that since P.T. Barnum was a local guy, the tiger might be a shout out to one of his signature attractions.
Re: 2019-20 season
Is Fairfield a A-H series or a one off thing??? Would think we could have gotten two for one with them.
Anyway, winnable away games can be beneficial and it's only a bus ride away. I'd like to go to that one to add to my list of places I have seen UMass play. It's nice that Lowell never wants a return game, but I have family there and would dig a game in Tsongas!

Not sure about a series with Fairfield. Their local media had a crappy article about the Stags schedule, not much more than the press release Fairfield issued.
Hopefully Walfish can shed some light on possible series when our schedule is announced.

JMO but I don't see a way the University of Massachusetts is playing a one-off road game at a MAAC school. There is only a minuscule chance because Wheeler just came from there, but even then you are significantly more likely to do at least a H+H than a one-off road game at a low major.
I would imagine that Fairfield will be in Amherst in 2020-21 to put a bow on a set; I don't think it's more than the H+H either. We'll see what the deal is soon enough I'm sure.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers schedule was released, and they have a home game at 7 PM on 11/9, the day we play Fairfield. Not sure how quickly the Webster Bank Arena staff could do / wants to do a changeover, but my guess is we'll be playing at Fairfield's campus gym

That's a nice looking little gym. I just hope it goes better than our away game vs Central CT a few years back.MikeUMA wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 9:43 pm Bridgeport Sound Tigers schedule was released, and they have a home game at 7 PM on 11/9, the day we play Fairfield. I read that the season starts Nov 5 this year. Wouldn't be surprised if Lowell is our first game and on that date but I have no information on the date of the game yet, just a hunch.

Solid. 4 Power 5 teams, 7 NE teams, 2 neutral games in a tournament. Not much to complain about here. Not too watered down, and not too strong. Couple of swing games. I can see anywhere from 5-8 to 8-5 in there. I wonder if the Akron game is part of a football package as well seeing as how the football team is playing them the next 2 seasons.
