Anyone receive a message yet about away game tickets? Rutgers is not that many days away, and I will be wanting 4-5.

^ Thanks, but, not what I was looking for. Somehow I have made it to now without ever using an athletic ticket site. I am hoping that there will be an mailing or email to season ticket holders for UMass section seats. We are planning to go to Rutgers and Army.

The point was that there isn't really any demand for the game. I'm sure the athletic department is in no rush.

Don't know if there are any of these left or if they are available to UMass fans.

^

Those are $25/ticket and very much still available.

Side note, when you go to purchase tickets on their website, a popup window comes up asking if you'd like to round your order up to the next $10 increment, which goes as a donation to the athletic department and their student-athletes. What a very good idea.

They will be available through our ticket office on 7/24 @ 10.

Just saw the video on the construction at the stadium and I thought- "imaging if all this construction has been done in the mid-90's during the bball craze where UMASS football would be now!". My guess is that at worst, UMASS would have been in the hunt for the FCS championship every year.

So the question is- What should UMASS be doing now that will benefit the school 25 years from now?

From 1998-2010 UMass was a ranked FCS program and in the playoffs routinely. If they had put money in like this back then we would have jumped up with UConn.

What they are doing right now is what is needed if opportunities arise. These investments are the footings for a foundation for the future. Can’t have put this effort in and assume all opportunities have dried up.

We're in better shape than you think. UConn is going to have a real tough time of things in the future and I'm glad we're not UConn. Academically, we're a tough school (for a state university) to get into. We're the 29th best state univ and 70th best overall in the US. If we win 4 or 5 games this season, it will be awesome. 2020 should be a great season for us and that should be a winning season.

I've always maintained that large, comprehensive universities should have FBS teams. People say one has nothing to do with the other but unless you are an Ivy league school, its true.

I completely agree with both of you. I meant more that our shot at getting into a stable conference may have passed and never return. The cream is rising to the top and I think will separate itself sooner than later - maybe we never would have made it there anyway, but we are certainly nowhere near consideration now and honestly we're not close to consideration in the next tier either.

And I completely agree with you 100%!!!! The time to have made the FBS or 1A or University division jump was in the mid-1960's. But it didn't happen, due to the fact UMass was rather small time and the powers that be in Mass. didn't want it to happen. Never the less; we're not a power conference type school (they have endowments over 1 billion) and to be truthful, we are a G5 type school. Since the jump to FBS, our academic rating has gone up!!!! Some people on this board have said one has nothing to do with the other, but they're wrong. Kids see UMass FBS football on ESPN etc and applications go up.

My real question is where does UMASS go from here? The past is the past and many good opportunities were missed when it came to the football program. Right now, lots of good things have happened (move to FBS, football performance center) and are happening (video board, bubble, BATHROOMS!!!). So how does UMASS set itself up for future opportunities?

The UCONN thing blows my mind. I would have said that it would be great to be in their shoes...but I guess not.

Does UMASS approach ESPN and say- how about helping us create a Northeast football league(Army, Buffalo UCONN, UMASS)? Or do we try to become a big time independent (need lots of money and a new stadium for that)? Or something else (I'm not a visionary here)?

Watching UCONN go down the tubes makes me think that UMASS needs some sort of plan. What do people on this board think?
