I think it's fine to fill all the scholarships. A lot of these kids are very mature prep school players. Tony has coached many of them already so knows their character. We've got Djery graduating next year and I'm guessing KTM might be on track to graduate and grad transfer. So maybe 2 scholarships anyway open up next year which we can target 4/5 star impact guys with the potential to get us to the next level. (Compete with P5s)

This coming year is about putting us back on the map with a cohesive group of players playing exciting basketball. Show potential recruits we are an up and coming team having a lot of fun. Next year should be a very focused recruiting year on getting those 1-2 guys that could really elevate us. Imagine if we added 2 guys of Tre Mitchel's caliber next year that could potentially take us from good to great.

I like our direction, I love our incoming recruits who seem to have great attitudes and enthusiasm for UMass, and I believe MM has stabilized the program and put himself in a position to excel with a lot of hard work.

^^

Personally I’d say it’s far too early to say McCall has stabilized the program. Six, possibly 7 new players (freshmen) on the roster doesn’t sound like stabilization to me. I’m waiting for the end of next season to see if the program is stable.

Walt Bell left many scholarships open and took on walk ons. If some of these players were not highly recruited or division 1 recruits, they should have been offered walk on status - if they show that they can contribute, then give them a full scholarship.
Prefered Walk Ons are not really a thing in Basketball like they are in football

Jacob Toppin from Woodstock just committed to URI. Wonder why he’s a player from Woodstock that we didn’t go after.

You are right, but I just don’t see how the program all of a sudden is stable after the two years through which we just suffered. Plus, McCall has proven little to nothing to date.

Hope he’s not as good as his brother has turned out to be.

Well by stabilized you could view that as the patient is no longer bleeding heavily, IV drips are in but we haven't left the hospital yet..

When you have a guy who coached him for an entire year on your staff I think you got to trust his judgement when it comes to passing on certain players.

Maybe after playing for him, he had no desire to do it again.......

I really like Kolton Mitchell. Just watched about 20 minutes of one of his games, I'm sold.
