Those were very good answers by our UMass president - it makes me happy that President Meehan is the one in charge. Interesting point about the comments that Richard Freeland made and his conflict of interest (on the payroll for Northeastern, a coop institution that likely feels threatened by this move). It makes me wonder if such interests instigated this entire uproar, because I still don't understand how the outrage could be so misplaced...should people at UMass Boston be so angry about the flagship salvaging a failing private school to the benefit of the students and the public (a move that doesn't at all seem to impact UMass Boston in any negative way)? Or should they instead be outraged about legislators not giving their institution (UMass Boston, and the UMass system in general) enough funding? It's no wonder that a lot of our politicians have opted to go along with the former sentiment, despite how ridiculous it seems to more logical minds (otherwise, it's plainly obvious that they, our state politicians, would be the ones to blame).

I also find it sadly ironic that the UMB faculty set their institution back further in the process by rejecting all of the candidates to lead their institution, and thereby now find themselves with an an extended interim (likely, with less power than a full-fledged chancellor). Do they even know what they are protesting at this point, and what their goals are? They don't appear to be very far sighted and seem to just be adding to their problems, sadly. Anyway, very insightful answers, and I was happy to hear President Meehan state that he is here for the long haul and for the betterment of the UMass system.

I don't know of anything UMass would want to do with their campus. But I guess it's somewhat related to this thread.

This came up at work the other day and the thought that UMass could use it as a satellite campus for their agriculture and some other programs. Space is running out on the main campus and I'm sure they'd love to claim some of that land, their solar array, the new hitchcock center, etc. Other than that, it seems like Hampshire's in trouble and I don't see Amherst College as having any interest whatsoever.

UMass taking it and integrating it with Stockbridge would make sense, I'd think...

Hmm that'd be interesting. Although if Stockbridge kids would have to go between main campus and Hampshire it's currently a 30-minute walk+PVTA bus ride from the ag-school. I don't know much about Stockbridge, but there might be some logistics they'd need to work out. And of course, Hampshire would have to make financial sense as well.

I think that Athletics would be interested in Hampshire's Indoor Tennis Facility!

I enjoyed my classes at Hampy - they had some excellent professors and wildly fun parties - that was the fun fun fun 1980's....... However its hardly surprising that in 2019 there aren't a ton of people who are willing to pay about $300K for a Hampshire degree. The last time I toured Hampshire the buildings and physical plant manifested years of neglect and deferred maintenance. It should be interesting to see what happens to Hampshire... will they need to rename us the 4 college area ?

^ So maybe Hampshire could be used as a geriatrics focussed satellite campus for UMass medical?

At the veterans museum here in Mooresville, NC we refer that as "the right side of the grass"

Anyone who is traveling down this way, I 77 south, I would recommend stopping in to see our museum. We have displays from the Revolutionary War to our newest display for Afghanistan.

Saw that yesterday on FB..... don't we already have that? Or did it fall by the wayside once Jack Wilson departed?

Umass Online is the current iteration. Unclear if this is simply a marketing announcement, or will add new capabilities/degrees. My guess is it will attempt to integrate what the other campuses are doing, especially Lowell.
