UMass dominated large portions of this game. Cayden Primeau stole it for the Huskies. We are a far better team, but the Huskies are good. We dropped to 2 in pairwise and might drop to 3 if Denver wins. All good though. Let’s sweep at Maine next weekend. Forgot to add, some bad Hockey East reffing, but we all know hockey east refs suck.

My initial thoughts right after the game was that Makar not scoring on the breakaway with 30 seconds in the 3rd and Madden scoring in OT was that this is gonna come back and be the reason they don’t win the regular season. And that’s nothing against Makar. He’s been great. It’s not his fault. You can’t score on every breakaway. Please don’t read that as a knock on him.

It’s a tough loss. A win would have meant UMass was up 5 points in the standings with games in hand against everyone and tie breakers over PC and NU. The loss means it’s a one point lead and the NU tiebreaker is unclear.

A UML fan texted me after the game saying “I wish I was there to lick your tears.” Which ironically cheered me up. Cause I lusted in years pass wishing UMass could be in this position. And here they are. I’m proud of the effort tonight. I’m proud of the team for coming back in a very packed and very load road environment. I think if we see NU again at the garden, the best team will win. And I look forward to UMass hopefully getting that opportunity.

Go UMass

Leave the A-10!

Yeah not calling the hold on our D in OT gave NU the 2 on 1 break.

But why call that a penalty, the Northeastern player only had his arms around the UMass defender's leg, preventing him from moving...

Good game and a tough loss to a good NU team. Hopefully we get back on track against the Black Bears.

There was a lot of talk on twitter dot com about the penalties at the end of the game.

- The slash on Makar's breakaway didn't look as bad to me live as it did on replay and that's probably because he got off a pretty good shot. In hindsight the slash probably kept Makar from getting the puck higher - and over Primeau (who was excellent). I'm not as bent out of shape on this one as I am about...

- The hold on Ferraro in the offensive zone that directly led to the 2 on 1 and GWG is about as egregious a no-call as I can recall. It is right on par with the missed pass interference in the Saints-Rams game yesterday. He was holding onto his leg like my 2 year old does when he doesn't want me to leave for a solid 3 Mississippi count. It's one thing to miss a quick grab but Ferraro was flailing trying to break through. Missing that one is inexcusable to me.

^ I agree with your points but when you put more than 40 shots on the goalie you ought to have more than 1 goal. That's what can happen in hockey, probably more than any other sport. That could be what Providence was thinking when they outshot us 31-13 and lost 3-2.

Next up, 2 at Maine. Let's get them both.
