Maine was impressive today and regardless of how UM search ends Joe Harasymiak will end up an FBS HC one day. Loved his fire and passion.

Colgate and coach Hunt were impressive again today beating JMU. They played Army tough as well a few weeks ago in a game I watched.

Based on what I've heard, yes, Bamford's strategy of not making the MBB coaching search public had nothing to do with Kelsey bailing on UMass at the 11th hour. What caused Kelsey to bail would've held true with a public or private coaching search.

To add some salary perspective to our coaching search, the latest available data from the Knight Commission, an independent organization that tracks athletic department expenditures, indicates that the median “FBS coaching salaries (entire staff) PER football athletic scholarship” is $49k. The data for UMass-$16.7k. The only schools paying less than us are: Buffalo- $14.1k, and Louisiana Monroe and UT San Antonio both at $15.1k. We basically are at the bottom of the coaching salary distribution.

If the budget is static, our very-talented AD really has a very difficult task ahead of him. If Bamford can attract a talented young, up and coming staff he deserves accolades and a huge raise. Hopefully, he can pull off some magic.

What is your problem. two years ago Fresno St was 1-11 and UAB didn't even have a team. If we hire the right guy we will win and as soon as next season when we do not play any power houses (Im not counting NW as a power house despite the nice run this year).

James Madison’s Mike Houston has agreed in principle to be East Carolina’s coach, source told @WatchStadium. Houston along w/new AD Jon Gilbert are expected to be formally approved by ECU's Board of Trustees in a Monday morning meeting

When I first read that Joe Cullen was an option I thought it was pretty interesting. After reading the comments that followed, I now find it interesting for all the wrong reasons.

Really good article on his life. No head coaching experience is interesting but lots to like as well. Always good to hear that some one can command a room. May be cheaper and allow for some top level assistants https://www.google.com/amp/amp.si.com/n ... s-comeback

It’s another roster rebuild.... they will be lucky to get to 4 wins next year. But - you know - when the B1G comes a callin’ in 2020 everything will be all right

Walt Bell, FSU offensive coordinator is the choice.

Oh well. Time will tell if its a good choice. Very underwhelmed, but will wait to see how Bamford made the choice.

I felt the same til I started to read about him.. the FSU people are pissed he left. I thought of how bad the FSU offense was but he wasn't given play calling duties til the end of the year. Plus it looks like hes a great recruiter.. we need that.

I'd imagine strong Florida ties as well, which is a good thing

Has anyone heard anything about who else was interviewed? Short list? Was really hoping for Harasymiak?

I was also hoping for Haraasymiak, but I think he was done in as an option by Maine's success in the FCS Playoffs. Suspect Bamford knew they needed a fairly quick hire for both player retention and recruiting. Given his track record, I'll trust the AD.

Liam Coen who was my personal first choice to be the new HC at UMass, has been hired to be the new OC at Boston College.
