^^ which stems from a head coach that puts 0 effort into recruiting defensive players.
Re: Fire the OC
Time to the start over.. I do have confidence that RB will make a wise choice.. he has over 2 months to figure out who his top 3 candidates will be.

How do we know that?TheInsider wrote: ↑Sun Sep 16, 2018 4:37 am ^^ which stems from a head coach that puts 0 effort into recruiting defensive players.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Re: Fire the OC
OK so a lot of you guys want to fire Whip like tomorrow. So how do we make changes to right the program. If Whip would be fired tomorrow do you promote an assistant to run the program the rest of the year or do you go out and find someone else to take the head coaching job. That would probably take at least a week and then would he keep the present coaches or get rid of most of them and bring in new coaches. Do you think that a guy like the Maine coach would leave there at this time and take the UMass Head coaching job? I doubt it. You would have to find someone who is not coaching now. Don't know how that would work out. Probably we would have to bit our lips and ride out the rest of the season with Whip.
I am open to any options anyone can come up with.

Re: Fire the OC
Berkie, I would think if that were to happen, an assistant would take over as interim. I don't know that I've ever heard of someone new coming in midseason
Didn't see or listen to any of this game and I'm glad I didnt

Re: Fire the OC
^^ I've heard the suggestion of Charles Walker for interim coach. Given that so far special teams is the only unit that has actually improved from last year... that might be an indicator his guys are still on board. Since he has a defensive background he might know what to do about the Pinkham situation as well. Based on the comments from Barr it looks like they've lost all confidence in Pinkham. I think we keep Whip on staff as an offensive assistant because I don't know who else can play call the offense on this staff. Would that reduce the buyout cost? Who knows taking the HC responsibility off Whip might make us a better team anyway.

Re: Fire the OC
Also never heard of a HC stepping down to an assistant job mid-season.
Re: Fire the OC
^ I've never heard of firing both the head coach and both the offensive and defensive coordinators mid-season before... and yet here we are.

Re: Fire the OC
^ How about at halftime? That would have been appropriate on Saturday.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis abruptly retired at halftime of Sunday's 31-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, saying in a statement later that the reality had hit him, "I shouldn't be out there anymore."

Re: Fire the OC
Bottom line is that we can criticize, speculate and suggest all we want but it is the A's decision to make. I would not want his job at this time.
Re: Fire the OC
Obviously I am discouraged by the complete lack of competitiveness in the last three games, but four games into the season is way too early to make some of the decisions people here are calling for.
Re: Fire the OC
Plus the obvious, what coach would dump his old team a quarter way in the season to take on a job at UMass.
Go UMass!!
Re: Fire the OC
^ best suggestion I've heard so far for a midseason termination would be the promotion of Charles Walker to interim. His guys are the only unit left who seem to be willing to play for him. And with his background in defense he might know what to do about the Pinkham situation.

Re: Fire the OC
^ Remember that Pinkham's defense got a lot better during the second half of last season. I know there's no way to go but up, but let's see what happens.
Re: Fire the OC
But this isn't just based off the last three games. It's overall inconsistency for the last three seasons.
