Folks, we are doing FBS on the cheap, and we need to, as there is extremely little fan support via attendance, and we are not growing alum support as 95% of students on campus do not even attend the games, just 'tail gate'.

Here is what Whipple made in 2017:

First total is salary, second is total payments (including salary, plus: incentives, bonuses, camp monies, etc.)

And, here are the comparators. In my view, we are at MAC level at best. But, we are not going MAC due to A10, and lower travel costs.

But again, the larger question is why UMASS expects to break through in FBS, when:

1. Massachusetts and New England are pro sports focused.
2. Few undergrads or alums follow the sport, evidenced by attendance and 3rd/4th tier TV coverage.
3. We are among the poorest paying in FBS.

I'm sure that you do, but it sure seems like you get some weird "I told you so" satisfaction about UMass failing miserably at something that could help and improve the university
