It's an exercise for those of us who are bored with the long off-season. Nothing more, nothing less.eldonabe wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 8:23 am When you basically (only) have 5 returning players - at least one of whom would/should not normally get more minutes than Lex Mongo (if it wasn't for the purge) - trying to speculate minutes is futile at best.
There is a fine line between predicting and guessing - you all are purely guessing right now.
What will we look like in 2018-2019?

Come on guys. This is a message board! Facts only! And I want every single guess at minutes cited (WITH LINK) to at least one coach saying that is exactly how many minutes that player will play.
Jesus Christ people. The "minutes" thing is more of a guess at a depth chart than an actual guess of mpg each guy will get.

I enjoy the conversation about minutes because, like MJ says, its a depth chart. Its a sense of what people think will be the relative contribution of all the players. If Niles minutes estimate is the least bit accurate, McLean in particular might have a difficult time adjusting since he started 18 games and played a ton of minutes last year. MM seems to respect effort and loyalty so McLean could be used as a spark off the bench more often than we think.

I'll guess they all will get somewhere between 0-40 minutes per game

I enjoy the minutes prognostications. Sure, they're just guesses based on very limited information. I don't care. They stimulate discussion in the offseason.

I disagree. I am predicting that nobody averages 40 minutes per game and that no healthy, eligible player averages 0 mintes per game. Bold, I know, but I had to go there..

Well, he did say "somewhere between" those two numbers. SO TAKE THAT!Uminuteman wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 2:48 pm I disagree. I am predicting that nobody averages 40 minutes per game and that no healthy, eligible player averages 0 mintes per game. Bold, I know, but I had to go there..

Just poking a little fun here.
But seriously, my guess is with this roster, minutes will vary a bit for most guys depending on the matchups, except for Pip, CP12, and maybe Laurent. I think Coach McCall rewards guys who bust their ass with pt, and there will be nights where we go small, nights we go bigger, and nights he just mixes things up. The depth is great to have.

The most interesting player from a minutes perspective in my opinion is RH. Obviously last season was disappointing and cut short by academic issues. He'll have to earn his playing time since McCall has no problem playing small lineups. He'll also have some competition at his position assuming KTM has made some strides and with Baptiste becoming eligible mid-December. I would love for RH to be in shape, have his act together, and be the dominate player we know he can be, but after 3 up and down years, he'll certainly have to prove it.

OMG this is the longest offseason ever.
This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!

The only two completely known entities right now are Pip and Pierre. They should get the most minutes, after that it is a 100% guess on all of them. I would be surprised to see Mclean get more than scrub minutes but who knows.Floyd wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 3:50 pm Just poking a little fun here.

Not much will surprise me in terms of minutes played this coming season because there are so many variables that not too many of us have hands on knowledge about. However, it will surprise me if McLean gets scrub minutes.

That inbounds lob to Unique for the dunk was the BEST inbounds play I have seen in a looooong time at UMass. That alone worth the price of admission
I like the kid. Plays tough D, rebounds exceptionally well for a 6'-1" kid, and jumps thru the roof. It's a match up problem with him but his effort has been very good in my mind. Always room for a kid like that. I'm sure he's working on his offensive game and how he improves will only help him. He's just....Unique
