Re: Beer & Wine
I think that we are a bunch of alcoholics on this board...
Save your breath... you'll need it to blow up your date
Re: Beer & Wine
Could have used it a few season's back. Hopefully not so much now!
Re: Beer & Wine
Should help with student attendance a bit
Re: Beer & Wine
Finally. BU Hockey has served wine and beer for many years. It is very tightly controlled, like 1 drink per i.d..
And, there have been all sorts of special events on UM campus, including Mullins, where alcohol was either available or served free.
IMHO, make it available, to avoid binging and pre-gaming, and just make it a social thing. 2 drinks per i.d. per event would seem reasonable.

Re: Beer & Wine
What's the drinking age for beer? Wine? I'm proud to say I still get carded!?!/ Only at BJ's though.

Re: Beer & Wine
Most undergrads are under 21 so it will be no help there. And unfortunately for the students who are 21+ I can't see this having much of an impact getting them to show up for games, it will likely be $6+ per beer. But I can see this helping to get fans in the building earlier. Instead of stopping off for a beer at a local spot this ay draw them into the building earlier.

UMass has many drinking establishments on campus (University Club, U-Pub, etc.), but has never made an effort to court fans to these establishments. I’m really surprised they don’t try to capture business on doubleheader days (basketball-hockey for example). Perhaps they don’t want to interfere with official sponsors like the Hangar or they don’t want overserved customers.
Re: Beer & Wine
They're also like 1.5 miles from McGuirk and 0.75 miles from Mullins. I mean they're certainly there for the taking but I think there are few fans who would walk 30 minutes for a beer. I mean fuck there's complaints about the bathrooms which are what at most 0.1 miles from the stadium?UMass02 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 10:11 am UMass has many drinking establishments on campus (University Club, U-Pub, etc.), but has never made an effort to court fans to these establishments. McKinney, I believe that's the first time I've heard you use profanity on the board. What u been doin' this summer?

Re: Beer & Wine
I have always thought they should add on a restaurant to the Mullins Center or a space that can be used for more of an informal gather spot open to the public that serves food and booze. How hard can it beUMass02 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 10:11 am UMass has many drinking establishments on campus (University Club, U-Pub, etc.), but has never made an effort to court fans to these establishments. Re: Beer & Wine
I think it is a very good idea.
Re: Beer & Wine
I guess you are correct. If they complain about a 500-ft walk to a permanent bathroom (passing many portapotties on the way), they certainly won’t walk 2500 feet to the U Pub.McKinney wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 1:49 pm

Re: Beer & Wine
Good news, obviously, but for me at least (not being able to go to any games) it doesn't necessarily qualify as "big" news the way it was being touted by some on Twitter.
I guess maybe my definition of big differs than theirs. It's a difference I've had before with past girlfriends as well.
