This isn't like shopping at a store, UMass can't just pick & choose who it wants, they can't attract a quality big man to be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart and never see the floor.69MG wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 9:43 am Understanding that you can't always get what you want (Thanks, Mick), wouldn't it be logical to try to restock what you are losing? We know RH is going and we're not deep at the 5 so I would start there. If you can't get a big, then go to option 2.
I'm a little biased because I really like Leveque.
I've embraced the movement to small-ball lineups, and to be competitive I think most teams will need to as well. Better to add a high level guard or wing than to add a mediocre big man who can't make an impact.
UMass will have Baptiste, KTM, and Chatman in 2019, there's no pressing need to add a 4th big man if he's not going to see the floor. Now if we could add someone like Tre Mitchell that's a whole different scenario, as he could be an impact player immediately, and a future star, but the chances of that are slim.
I'm not a big fan of Leveque, or really any of the big men that UMass seems to have a good chance with in 2019. I think the guards and wings they're involved with have a much better chance of being impact players in the A10. Of course that's just my amateur opinion.
The one thing I feel pretty confident in saying is that McCall is now well past the point of adding anyone who he feels is mediocre, or isn't a really good fit. As I understand it, just in the few months they passed on Zdor, Jockuch, Eboigbodin, and probably many more.
