UTAH?
UTAH?
Just received the 2019 lacrosse schedule and see that UMASS is playing UTAH?!? on St. Patrick's Day at home. Should be interesting. Didn't know the Utes played lacrosse. A potential rival since the cowards at Syracuse won't play UMASS.

16-1 overall last year, losing to BYU in the conference quarter finals. 10-7, 5-9, 2-11 in the three prior years.

IV - That was their club team. They begin D1 play this coming year. Will Manny is an assistant coach.

Re: UTAH?
With Will Manny as an assistant coach that game was fait accompli.
The Utes are becoming full D1 members for men's lacrosse this season, I believe they are playing an independent schedule for at least a couple years before they settle themselves into a conference.
It doesn't hurt to play a power conference team that's new to the sport in D1, it could pay dividends down the line in other sports, or in lax if the Utes become a good team that is willing to play UMass every year.
Traveling to Utah is what would be tough, but if they are hosting them this season you can almost guarantee that the Gorillas are going to pay back a game in Utah in 2020.
Ohio State back on the schedule this year is nice as well, glad to see that, and the Minutemen will continue to play against Lowell and they are traveling to NJIT as well to return a game.
Does look like they had to drop Hartford in order to put Utah on the schedule. They had played the Hawks for many consecutive years, it's an easy travel game for both schools.
The schedule is tentative right now anyway, as it always is. They've got 14 games including their traditional matchups with Army, Harvard, Brown, Albany, and Yale. They play the defending national champs and another final four participant in a span on three days in 2019, both on the road. That should be quite the test.

I think it's so cool that Utah is adding lacrosse, and hopefully Massachusetts will have a regular series with them moving forward. Two flagship universities, two large fanbases (Laxbackers >>>) and two programs who have a lot to be excited about.

Bona also begins their D1 play this coming year. With Tim Kenney there, it wouldn't be a shocka if we scheduled a game with them some season soon.

I'm watching the World Lacrosse Championship tourney game between USA and the Iroquois Nationals. The announcers, including Quint, are talking about the start of the D1 Utah program, and about the tremendous support they have. Will Manny was mentioned.
Edit: More from the tournament:
UMass Men's Lacrosse @UMassMLacrosse
Luc Valenza brought the muscle today with 6 GBs. Congratulations Luc & @ItaliaLacrosse on the 13-7 win over Peru today! #GorillaLacrosse
UMass Men's Lacrosse @UMassMLacrosse
Help us out... how's it that Isaac Paparo (Israel) can routinely wield 6 feet of lumber like it's a short-stick??
