Re: Greens Dean
Off topic here, but I was looking through old yearbooks and saw that we used to have a varsity golf team here at the U. Was really cool to see, kind of wish we still had one but I'd imagine a varsity golf team has to be one of the biggest drains monetarily for a university athletic department.
Re: Greens Dean
If UMass had their own golf course up to NCAA standards, offering varsity golf today would be a no-brainer.
The course would also give the turf grass management program a great teaching and research laboratory. It could offer Stockbridge students summer internships in turf grass and horticulture. UMass could use the course to fundraise (no need to hold Athletics golf outings off-campus), bring alumni back to campus, and attract top-notch faculty and staff. Then again, the way the golf industry is going, a course may be antidiluvian at this point.

The Globe would explode if UMass added a golf course on campus.

Hickory Ridge went bankrupt a few years ago. We should have bought it.

Re: Greens Dean
The only way UMass gets a golf course these days is if someone builds it on their own and then donates it to the school.

Re: Greens Dean
It is a shame that we do not have a course. Many flagships do, including Ohio State, LSU, UNC, Wisconsin, Florida and Georgia.

Yale needs an international airport.
Does anyone out there get that reference?

It could server as an additional research facility for Stockbridge and clubhouse function space for hotel and Restaurant programs. I am biased I am a golfer.
Re: Greens Dean
My brother went to Florida State, the university course is right next to campus. Pretty cool. I'm not seeing a golf course or varsity golf team in the near future for UMass. Probably way down on the list for priorities at the school.
