And I thought IV set the record for the most years in school. 23 years for Mike is a record that won't be broken!

Not a specific UMass reference, but a UMass alum, Jay Fielding - legend, will be featured on the new HGTV show Home United tomorrow morning (Saturday) at 10am. Knowing him, there's likely to be something UMass related hanging on a wall or sitting on a table that will be shown. Check it out.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

That was pretty cool. He was my college roommate. He told me they made him take down the UMass flag before taping because of potential copyright issues.

THREAD: Some personal news: Today starts my last week at the Daily Hampshire Gazette. After 20 really fun years, I’m working my last day Friday. This is a bittersweet, but harmonious move. Gazette is still committed to UMass coverage and I’m still going to be a sportswriter (1/3)
Best wishes to Matt.

^ Matt has been a friend for a long time. I'm sorry to see this, but I know that he will be just fine.

This isn't isolated for us, as Jeff Howe left the Herald not long ago, and this weekend Bob McGovern (Crooks here) announced his departure. Jeff will continue to write sports, but Bob is going a different direction.

Matt: "I’ve accepted a sports columnist position at MassLive.com, where I’ll be covering a lot of Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins."

Excellent.

Further off topic, but a bit related:

Any UMass journos want to report in beautiful Southern Vermont at the Bennington Banner?

I'm being temporarily reassigned to this paper, we're so short-staffed!
We're looking for three new hires between now (as in, basically immediately if possible) and the end of July.

We have several UMass grads at New England Newspapers, and we'd love to have you!

I've heard great things about the office in Vermont, which usually has about four people, and the town of Bennington itself. Also relatively cheap housing!

Send your resume to Kevin Moran, executive editor and chief content officer of New England Newspapers, at [email protected].

We're actively looking ... and deeply short-staffed. 😀

This is interesting. …. the "Institute" sems upset with the increase in % of higher paying out of staters. ( I have a feeling that they would also be upset if the Flagship wasn't generating more $ via out of staters if the situation was reversed ). Are they trying to generate animosity towards UM Amherst suggesting the admissions policy is taking more slots from better qualified sons and daughters of the Baystate and awarding them to out of state applicants? I realize they have an agenda to discredit our school at every opportunity.
