Winthrop is out, but Radford advances to the Big Dance on a buzzer-beater over Liberty. Just need East Tennessee State to win the Southern Conference tonight and both of my daughters are covered (although my second one is also Radford as an undergraduate).

Re: Pat Kelsey
One thing about Kelsey's coaching career at Winthrop is that, he still lives in the shadow of Gregg Marshall at Winthrop and I don't see him receiving big coaching offers this offseason as well. 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 6 seasons at Winthrop doesn't cut it there.

So, Chris Mack is about to leave Xavier for Louisville.
Let's see if Pat Kelsey's plan of leaving UMass to have a shot at the Xavier job will be worth it.

Can confirm that Siena went after Pat Kelsey. No go. Siena’s compensation package not enticing enough (for head coach and also assistant pool) and they have struck out on a few head coaches thus far.

If PK turned down UMass because his wife didn't like the area, or it was too cold, or something along those lines, then Siena never had a chance at him. Welcome to beautiful downtown Albany in January ...

None of those things are why he turned down UMass...he could not say the real reasonJuice Stand wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 5:38 am If PK turned down UMass because his wife didn't like the area, or it was too cold, or something along those lines, then Siena never had a chance at him. However, he was involved at Siena and he is lying in saying he wasn’t.

The guy remains a huge piece of shit.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

I don't if "the real reason" will ever be known publicly, but I'm still curious.TheOFFSeason wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 6:27 amNone of those things are why he turned down UMass...he could not say the real reasonJuice Stand wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 5:38 am If PK turned down UMass because his wife didn't like the area, or it was too cold, or something along those lines, then Siena never had a chance at him. Winthrop won their conference tourney this year and got an automatic big to the NCAA Tournament, which was then cancelled. I find a bit of schadenfreude in that.
Bringing this up today because this is the 3rd anniversary of Kelsey getting cold feet and no-show'ing at our press conference.

^ My wife and I drove up for the press conference. The scene was bizarre to say the least.
Re: Pat Kelsey
What the NCAA should have done was hold the tournament, have Winthrop show up for their first round game, then cancel it 30 minutes before tipoff.MikeUMA wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 10:02 am Winthrop won their conference tourney this year and got an automatic big to the NCAA Tournament, which was then cancelled.
