Back from a great weekend in Amherst. Donor appreciation breakfast was very nice. Great to see UMass achieving so many incredible things. Makes you kind of forget about football. Kind of. Obviously the win was really nice to see, even if it was against a team that couldn’t beat our band.

Defense did a good job against the triple option. We shut down their main weapon and made them try to beat us in the air, which is not their game. We largely stuffed them on the ground, and got off the field on third downs. Not perfect, but at least there was a clear plan, and they largely executed. On offense, we finally got some significant running yards. Hopefully this gives the OL a sense of how to run block that we can carry forward in some of the later season games.

Still made a lot of the same old mistakes, penalties, etc. A better team would have made us pay, and it really makes me scratch my head about where and how we are actually improving. But I’ll set that aside for now and see how it goes next week. It’s definitely nice to look at my ESPN and see UMass with that big win.

The only play I recall where GS fumbled forward, the ball was brought back to the spot of the fumble and they had a second or third down with ~4 yards to go. I think they wound up getting that first down, but not on the fumble forward.

"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

Glad to see that GSU continues to fumble the ball against UMASS. Wish other schools would get on board with that.

Was at the game. Not a clue of how this happened. Any explanation out there?
Many still believe the "tuck rule" was made up!
I wonder if Whip changed his mind to decline what would’ve happened.....ref would definitely have been confused. I also think they spotted the ball wrong on a penalty and gave GSU 20 yards instead of 15 on one.

They definitely spotted the ball incorrectly! I was screaming that they enforced the spot on the declined penalty.

That's what happens when you get blown out by a previously winless UMass football team.

Had a blast all weekend and it was nice to see the team score some points and have some fun. Still not expecting much going forward, but this weekend was a nice reprieve.

What a beautiful weekend as well.

Are we going to see Comis and Ford split playing time at QB going forward?

I really don't think our QB was the issue, Ford has been playing well recently. But hey, we got the win and that's the most important thing here.

I've never been a fan of the two-headed quarterback thingy.

Some comments from Whip at the Sports Luncheon:

On the game - "I was more nervous about this game than I was for the National Championship or maybe even the Super Bowl. The players needed a win. They have worked so hard and needed to finally win one". He may have overstated this but he does care about the players.

Starting QB - Ford will start on Saturday.

A bit of humor - "3 players came to my office on Sunday and wanted to know why they didn't play in a 55-20 game. I told them maybe it was a 55-20 game because they were next to me on the sideline." He then mentioned that he wanted to get everyone in on D but we held the ball so long in the 4th quarter that GaSo only ran 6 plays. He did get almost everyone in on offense in the 4th.

App State - They are small but very fast, including the D line. Their QB is very good.
