Game 14, 2016-17: St Bonaventure (12/30)

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but I saw this article about Bonaventure...

Bona has the feel of an A-10 contender

Game 14, 2016-17: St. Bonaventure (12/30)

This is as big of a conference opener as I can remember. We open the conference with five challenging games and if we're going to surprise some people and avoid a real setback in what has been a really fun season thus far it's incumbent upon the fan base to get out to the Bill and be loud and passionate. Bona is coming off a huge upset loss and will have had 8 days to prep for us. Schmidt in that scenario scares the hell out of me. We need to come out and support the team.

I'll be there plus 4.

I'm usually there +3 but thanks to the Flex System, I was able to flex 2 of the snowstorm tickets and it will be me +5.

^Yeah I only have 1 season ticket but don't get up much because of distance so I flexed 3 as well.

Agree, Marty. This is an opportunity to show that we can beat another RPI top 100-ish team. From a W/L perspective, their wins are all against weak teams, with losses to Florida, a close one at Little Rock and home vs UNCW, and Canisius most recently.

Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley are a dangerous backcourt and the team's leading scorers, both above 40% and fiery from 3 point range. Very happy that Marcus Posley and Dion Wright graduated last year and we don't have to deal with him as he averaged over 20 pts versus us last year between both games. They have 2 6'7 guys as their biggest men, so hopefully Holloway, Hines and Gresham can take advantage of that.

Even on short rest from tonights game, I think we definitely have a great shot to win this one and make a statement. Game will be close, that's for sure. And it would be nice to have a win on them before we have to go up to that dump known as Olean and play them at the Reilly Center.

I think am more worried about SBU having 8 days of prep than the Minutemen being tired. PIpkins and Jarreau logged quite a bit of time today, but otherwise most guys saw pretty manageable minutes. Hopefully SBU comes out flat after the long lay off and UMass is still high from a good road win.

They have 3 other players who are taller, but don't get as much PT. Chinoso Obokoh, a 6'9 Syracuse transfer, has missed the last 5 games with a knee injury. He was only getting 11 minutes, but was averaging over a block a game in those 11 minutes. They also have Ikpeze (6'10, 250) who gets 9 minutes a game. Ayeni is 6'8, gets 17 minutes and averages 5.9 points.

Gregg might only be 6'7 but he plays bigger; 12.9 points, 7.4 boards and 2 blocks per game. I loved the way Rashaan played today. If he can keep it up he does give us a significant advantage down low.

I know it's obvious, but they have really good guards and a really good coach. I think they are going to be a top five team in the conference when all is said and done. Hopefully we can wear them down a bit.

Schmidt is an amazing coach. their back court is lethal. they love to play man to man but watch them go 1-3-1 . I pray DK can adjust. We should pound the ball inside all day which will hopefully open up some inside out open 3s. need to be glue to those guards. I fear both will score over 20 each and make this a very tough game

From "Atlantic 10 Tempo Thursday":
The NASCAR leaders, or fastest-tempo teams to date in conference:
UMass: 76 possessions per game
St. Bonaventure: 75
Duquesne: 74
Davidson: 72
Saint Joseph’s: 72
Tomorrow might be a track meet.

Their defense is absolutely horrible.. remind me of the Umass team last year.. could score in bunches but couldn't stop anyone. We should be able to score pretty easily on them. If we play hard D all game this one is ours. 82-73 Umass

This will not be an easy game to win if the Bonnies play their usual tough game against us. Don't think that DK can/will make the necessary adjustments if we fall behind quick.

Just checked the weather for W MA and even Olean and they are predicting 5 - 8 " of snow. Hope they took that into their travel plans.

I noticed that too yesterday but now I'm seeing only 1-3 inches. Have to make a long drive across the state so hoping it's more in the 1-3 range
