Tough call on where UMASS stands relative to the top-ranked schools. Turn those OT losses to wins and UMASS is a top ten school. Nevertheless, the loss to Hofstra and the squeak by win against Drexel makes you wonder just how good they are.

Is it me or does UMASS seem to always start the season out slowly and gain momentum as the year goes by? How does Cannella change this? Perhaps the bubble will help. Also, it seems that UMASS loses its focus/tires in the 4th quarter- conditioning problem?

I believe that some of the 4th qtr lag is that they are playing the bench more, game trying to give them some in-game experience. And that can cost some goals but is smart coaching.

But that wasn't the case in their losses. Certainly, when UMASS got out to a big lead against Fairfield, it made sense to get some younger guys in. But in the losses to Army, Yale, and Hofstra, UMASS was outscored in the 4th period (only by one goal). If they are even in the 4th, UMASS wins those games. 4th period is crunch time against very good teams. Hope they don't fade in the CAA tourney.

Good luck to the Gorillas against Delaware. Keep the CAA tourney in Amherst.

Yale is really good, Army pretty good. Hofstra loss was inexplicable. With the exception of Penn State, good teams have lost 2 or more games.

Sconone sees a lot of shots and has held up well under some real pressure, so he should be given his due in all of this. Delaware is well coached by Ben DeLuca. Should be a battle.

Paparo drafted as 16th overall in PLL draft

So he has been drafted by both Pro leagues. There were only 24 draftees in PLL - 6 teams.

Sconone has been great! Hope he can keep his hot streak going all the way through the CAA and NCAA (I hope)tourneys.

If UMASS had won all those OT games, they would be 13-1 and probably ranked in the top 5 or maybe 2. Just a little luck and UMASS would be the talk of the college lacrosse world. Right now it looks like UMASS needs to win the CAA tournament to be assured of an NCAA bid. Good luck to the Gorillas on Thursday and I hope Saturday!

Saw the younger Tobin and Reading H.S. play Acton-Boxborough Friday in a losing effort, 4 to 12.. He stood out as an excellent feeder and has a great shot. Quite fast. Mostly played mid-field, but also inverted as the QB at X.

What impressed me the most was his ability to see the field and make excellent passes.
